Synopsis from Goodreads:

She’s searching for answers to her past. They’re hunting her to save their future.

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

My Review:

I loved the way this book started. The mystery surrounding the Alaskan settlement and the lies about WWIII. The main character, Juneau, was pretty badass. She has Katniss Everdeen level survival skills. Seriously, if I’m ever stranded in a post-apocalyptic world, I want to be friends with Juneau. This girl will totally make sure you survive. However, Juneau was also kind of emotionless. She was very matter-of-fact which made her seem cold at times. So I had a hard time connecting with her on an emotional level since she never really showed emotion. I think that certain things at the beginning happened too easily. Mainly how Juneau and Miles found each other. It was just too simple and I honestly didn’t believe it.

Miles was okay. I thought he was nice enough and I liked that he reacted like any normal person would. I really liked that he didn’t accept everything Juneau said immediately.  That being said, he really didn’t make that big of an impact on me. I thought he was sweet at times, but he was also reckless and a bit spoiled. He did get better as the story went on and he definitely developed and changed. But overall, he just didn’t wow me.

So I’m reading along, enjoying the story, feeling as if we are reaching the climax when all of a sudden the book just ends. I thought there was something wrong with my galley. Seriously. I have never had a book end so abruptly. I felt like I was driving my car down the road and I suddenly slammed into a tree. I felt cheated. And honestly it made my star rating drop by an entire star. But I will say that I enjoyed this book for the most part and I am definitely interested in seeing where it goes. Happy reading all!

Let's talk. Have you read this one? What did you think of the abrupt cliffhanger ending?

    1. The cover is really pretty! Hopeless is really good so far. I'm not that far in, but I'm already in love with Dean. :)

    1. I would wait if I were you. I think that you're going to be mad at the ending. It's very abrupt and very cliffhangerish. Yes, I just made that word up.
