Discussion Post: Other Interests

Today, I wanted to share with you some other interests that I have besides reading books.

I know. I was shocked too. Like, there's more to life than books? Maybe I should just stop writing this post now... No, no. Focus, Becca. There is more to life than books. There really is. And there are other things I enjoy doing. Now if only I can remember them...

I enjoy horseback riding. I started riding when I was seven after years of begging my parents to let me take horseback riding lessons (Sidenote: I love how innocent and uninformed we are as children. Horseback riding lessons are expensive! No wonder my parents said no for so long...). I owned a horse for a few years, but unfortunately had to sell him when I moved to Virginia. His name was Dudley and he was amazing. I really miss him, but he's still at the same barn I had him at so I get updates on how he's doing. :)

(This isn't my horse. I was too lazy to get the pictures of him and I off the other computer...)

I also really love the ocean. Okay, so maybe that goes hand in hand with reading since I love to read on the beach....but I'm counting it. I just love swimming in general. I love getting in the water and fighting the waves for a couple hours and then going back up to the beach and taking a nap. *sigh* It's bliss.

I really enjoy going on walks in the summer. There were lots of different places to hike out in Washington. Not sure about here in Virginia yet, but from what I hear there are a lot of nice walking trails and things to see.

Cooking. I love cooking. Trying new recipes is one of my favorite things to do. I only wish that I had more time to try more new things! (I know this is one of my husband's favorite hobbies of mine...)

Shopping. I love shopping. I actually went to school for fashion merchandising. I just love clothes and shoes and bags and jewelry and just all things pretty. That counts as a hobby/interest right? ;)

Lastly, I really enjoy crafting. I don't do it as much as I would like to, but when I have time I love going on Pinterest and actually doing all the awesome crafty things on there. I've made lots of canvas art, decoupage wine bottle vases, and I even made my own wedding shoes! (Not the actual shoes...I bought some flats and then basically bedazzled them out.)

So there you have it. Some more hobbies of mine besides reading/writing! Who would have thought I had so many other interests. But just remember books is #1. :D

What are some of your other interests aside from reading?

  1. Those shoes are so cute!! I love looking up crafts on Pinterest, but I rarely actually do them unless it's like 5 steps or less (shame). Anything with a canvas is usually super fun though! :)

    1. Lol I get it. If it's not pretty easy, I'm skipping it. Canvas art is my favorite! I've made so many cool things with canvasses!

  2. I love learning about people's other interests outside of reading and blogging! I love that you did up your own shoes - especially wedding shoes! I think I could follow pinterest tutorials, but I'm just not a crafty person like that. I cut the sleeves off my t-shirts sometimes, but that's as far as I go haha!

My other interests are Olympic weightlifting, cats (just like...in general), and trying to cultivate other hobbies. If I'm not at work or the gym, or driving to one of those places, I'm probably reading or just killing time on the internet. I'd like to try so many other things, though, so I'm working on that.

    1. Thank you! Lol, I'm not super crafty but I enjoy doing cute, simple things.

Wow Olympic weightlifting, huh? What's that like? Hahaha cats. That's great. Cats are awesome. :)

  3. I don't know if this is a hobby that DOESN'T have to do with book blogging, but I love computer programming. I love figuring out how things in the computer work. I also love baking cupcakes. I try new recipes everytime. I also love watching movies. I LOVE it. I don't know why, I guess it's something like reading, but different. Lol.

You have great hobbies! I wish I liked to cook, I just do it because it's necessary. xD

    1. That's really cool! I suck at computer programming, coding, etc. Cupcakes! Yummy! I'm not a big movie/TV person. I think I'm the odd one out on that though. I mean, I have shows that I watch and I will watch the occasional movie, but it just doesn't do much for me.

  4. Ok, I admit that I'm a little scared of horses. I used to love them when I was little (theoretically) and I remember loving The Black Stallion series (I was a bit obsessed). But a friend of mine had horses and one of them charged me one time and that was pretty much it for me.

You are crafty! Love the shoes. I used to scrapbook, but I stopped. And I used to run, but I stopped (after I finished a half-marathon it made me realize that I would never be able to run a marathon because it killed me and I would have to do what I just did, again). So now I walk (sometimes jog), but that's about it. I do want to try yoga, that's my new goal.

I love houses (and renovation stuff) so my husband and I go to home tours.

TV and movies, I love, but with work and the blog (and reading, of course) I don't do as much as I used to do. Oh well!! I'm feeling a bit boring. :) ~Pam

    1. That's scary! Yes, it's definitely a dangerous sport, but I absolutely love it. And I also loved The Black Stallion series!

Thank you! I hate running. Like HATE it. I would rather do anything else. Yoga is really fun. A lot harder than I thought I would be, but I loved it. I can't do it anymore though because I hurt my shoulder and it's a lot of shoulder work.

Oooh home tours!! How do you do that? I want to go! I would love to tour like the crazy huge mansions (there's tons of them around here).

You aren't boring at all! I feel like we would get along so well in real life. Lol.

  5. Ahhhh I LOVE riding!! I did the same thing - begged my parents for lessons!! I took them for awhile, showed very briefly but it all got too expensive. :( I worked at a horse camp for awhile too. best summers of my life! I miss riding like CRAZY. My goal is to make friends with people who have horses and beg them to let me ride them.

I'm not very crafty... well i used to scrapbook but i haven't in years. I just ran out of time. :( anyway, i love your wedding shoes!!!

    1. Yay! Yeah, it was just so freaking expensive. I wish I could have brought my horse out to Virginia with me, but I couldn't afford it. :(

Thank you! They were super fun to make!
