Top Ten Classics

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we make lists of bookish things!

This week's topic is favorite classics/classics that we want to read. Well, I've read a pretty decent number of classics, but I haven't had very good luck. But there are a few that I absolutely loved and a few more that I still want to read (although I totally fail at reading classics), so here they are!

Mr. Darcy. *sigh* I am so in love with him and could reread P&P over and over again and never get sick of it.

Heathcliffe. *sobs* My heart breaks so much for him. I love him so much and was pretty horrified when I read the book, but it totally stuck with me. A heart-breaking story, but so so good.

Dracula and Frankenstein. Both books I read in high school that I actually enjoyed. I had an English teacher who was very gothic. Her favorite author was Edgar Allen Poe so we always got to read the darker stories which was kind of fun. Dracula and Frankenstein in particular were two of my favorites.

I just need to read more Jane Austen. The only one I've read besides P&P is Northanger Abbey. Which was good, although I honestly don't remember much about it.

The Great Gatsby because I really want to see the movie and I want to read the book first. Also, I read a retelling not too long ago, Great, and loved it! So I'm hoping that I love the original just as much.

Les Miserables because I also want to see the movie, but want to read the book first... although I hear I should bring my tissues.

The Age of Innocence because it sounds like old school Gossip Girl which I am all for!

The Picture of Dorian Gray because it sounds creepy and awesome.

Brave New World because it's been called the first ever dystopian novel and my sister has been bugging me about reading it. (I'll get to it, Megan!)

What about you guys? What are some of your favorite classics? What are some ones that I should add to my TBR?

  1. Pride and Prejudice! I try and read that at least once a year, I love it so much. It's my favorite Jane Austen, but if you love that, you will love Emma and Sense and Sensibility (and I also recommend the movies too, the one with Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma and then the one with Kate Winslet for Sense and Sensibility). I actually never read Dracula or Frankenstein. If I had to make a list of all the classics I have not read, it would be VERY LONG. Great list! ~Pam

    1. I will have to read and watch both! Yes, my list would be very very long as well... I am an epic failure at classics.

  2. I loved the Great Gatsby the first time I read it even though I really didn't know what I was reading at the time. I can't wait to read it again. Great list :)

  3. My fiance keeps bugging me to read a brave new world as well! It's on my list. I want to read more Jane Austen too, I have her collected works so I should! I looved Dracula. And I want to read Les Mis as well. I've seen the play at least twice and the movie (I adore the play so much) so now I need to read it!

    1. Dracula is so good!! Les Mis... I really want to read, but I'm also terrified because it's so freaking long.

  4. Les Mis is MASSIVE. I read it two years ago, and ye gods it took me ages. It is pretty good though! (Although some sections drag a bit...)
I really like To Kill a Mockingbird! You should read it :P

    1. I'm sure I will get to it eventually. But I may have to take breaks and read some other quick reads in between. Lol.

I actually have read to Kill a Mockingbird and just totally forgot to put it on this list. Love that book! So so good.

  5. I totally love everything P&P as well. I would love to do a re-read! I also want to get to The Great Gatsby soon. I've just heard such amazing things. Truthfully, many 'classics' literally put me to sleep, so I don't choose them often without heavy recommendation. ;)

    1. Same here!!! And then I feel bad. But there's too many books in the world for me to be forcing myself to read classics that put me to sleep.

  6. To Kill A Mockingbird and Little Women are my top two favorite classics.
