Wow, it's been forever since I wrote a discussion post. I've been so busy lately and have been focused mostly on reviews with the occasional Top Ten Tuesday post thrown in. And because I've been so busy I wanted to do a discussion/apology about commenting on other blogs.
I used to be so good at commenting. I would have my Bloglovin' feed down to zero every single day and would comment on almost every post I read. But lately I've been really bad. I still read your posts, I promise. But a lot of times it's on my phone while I'm on lunch at work, or sitting at a red light, or picking up food and waiting for it to be ready. And you all know how difficult it can be to leave comments while on your phone.
But I feel so guilty. Every time one of you wonderful people comments on my blog, I feel the guilt pressing down on me. I want to be able to comment on everyone else's blogs, I really do. But the time just isn't there. It's either comment on everybody else's blogs or write my novel. I feel like I'm being torn in half. Two things I love doing that I have to choose between.
Well, November is Nano (which is this thing where you try to write a whole novel, 50,000 words, in a month). I missed the first week of November because I was in Cancun (woot woot!), but I really want to try for at least 40,000 words on a new idea I have. But that means even less time for commenting than I have now. And that leaves me feeling guilty.
So tell me, how often do you comment on other people's blogs? How many blogs do you follow? I feel like I don't follow that many compared to other people. I follow A LOT on Twitter and will click the occasional links that interest me, but the ones I subscribe to via Bloglovin' are the ones where I try to read every single post.
Are you bad at commenting too and does it leave you feeling guilty? How do you overcome that? How do you find time to comment?

Oh gosh. I have no answer for this. I seriously suck at commenting nowadays. Between work and blog and trying to read? And trying to write for nano? Like there literally isn't time! And I'm like never finishing nano bc I haven't gotten to write for like a week. :( but I figure I'll get as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteI know. I feel so guilty. But work, blog, reading, writing, working out, spending time with the hubby/family. It's too much!! Not enough hours in the day. :(
DeleteAnd I'm epic failing at Nano. Since I haven't written a single word. I really need to fix that, but...time.
*coughs* I used to comment on a ton of blogs on a daily basis. These days. . . Well, today is the first time that I've done it in a long time. . . It's frustrating! I feel like I need to respond to so many people, but I never seem to have the time anymore.
ReplyDeleteI know! Same here! And then by the time I do have time, I'm exhausted and just want to read. And then I feel even more guilty. *sigh*
DeleteI definitely go through heavy phases where I'll feel completely overwhelmed with life and not even able to respond to comments on my own blog, and then times when I'm feeling social because I'm at home when the boy is STILL at work *ahemlikenowcough* and go comment on a bunch of posts :D. In any case, we don't hate you, we understand and we'll all still be here when life feels more under control :)
ReplyDeleteAwww thanks! <3 I just feel like there's no time anymore and I know the holidays aren't going to help at all. But I guess I'll do my best like we all do. :)
DeleteI know what you mean, I feel bad when I don't comment because I know how much I appreciate getting comments. But sometimes you just don't have as much time and that's ok. I don't know how many I follow, but there are blogs that I regularly leave comments (probably about 8-10) and then others that I only comment when it's a book I want to read or have read or it's an interesting discussion question, etc. Sometimes, to be honest, I don't leave a comment if I'm pressed for time and the person already has twenty comments or something. Is that bad? Anyway, don't worry about it and comment when you can! :) ~Pam
ReplyDeleteBut you're so good at commenting!! I'm a lot like you though. I have probably around 10 blogs that I religiously read and comment on (tho even those I've been slacking on lately). And the others I do my best to comment when I can or when a post really interests me. No that's not bad at all because I've done the exact same thing. They've already had a lot of discussion on their post, so I kind of feel like, what else is there to say?
DeleteCOMMENTSSS. I love reading comments, I love getting comments, and I love commenting. I think comments are a fabulous way to express your opinion but...it can be difficult to balance reading all the blogs all the time. My Bloglovin' feed is pretty large, and most of the content tends t be blog tours/ memes anyways, and I don't usually read/ comment on those unless they are feauturing a book I love. I tend to comment more on discussion posts (like this one!)
ReplyDeleteI'm also doing NaNo and OH MY GOSH IT'S TIRING. It takes away from commenting/ blogging time, but I am at 30K already, so I'm hopeful. ;-)
Same here. I really love commenting, receiving comments, replying to comments, etc. But there is so little time for it all! And my bloglovin' feed is pretty full too, but a lot of the people I follow consistently post reviews or discussions that I want to read and comment on. If a blogger participates in a bunch of tours/memes, I usually only follow them via Twitter and just pick and choose which links to click.
DeleteGreat job on Nano! I am epically failing. I think I have written like 1500 words. :( It's so hard to find the time.
I absolutely know how you feel. I follow A LOT of blogs on Bloglovin' and have hundreds of unread posts because I just can't get to them all. I try to save as many of my favourites as I can to go back to when I get time on the computer but it is hard. I do read a lot more than I comment on but it's not because I can't be bothered. I do try to comment as much as I can and I love when people take the time to comment on mine. Don't feel like you should comment for the sake of it though- sometimes you have nothing to say and it's enough to just read it. Maybe share it on Twitter instead?
ReplyDeleteYeah, same here. I overuse that favorite button, but then I forget to go back. That's a great point! There are times when I don't feel like I have anything to say and I don't want to comment just for the sake of commenting. Sharing on Twitter is a great alternative!
DeleteI don't comment nearly enough... and then I complain (to my roommate or mom or real life friend) that I don't get enough comments on my blog. Life is just so busy lately, though, but I'd like to get into the habit of commenting more on friends' reviews and discussion posts.
ReplyDeleteHaha right? I've been there for sure. I try to comment on at least 5-10 posts per day. I feel like that's a good number even though it doesn't begin to touch my bloglovin' feed.
DeleteI feel guilty too when it comes to commenting. I usually try to return comments right after I publish a new post since I'm already at my computer and in a blogging mood :) I read a lot of posts on Bloglovin too but usually struggle with what to say. Weekends are usually better times for me to comment too with more free time. Sometimes I just don't feel like it though and it seems like a big chore. I think a lot of bloggers feel that way though. We all love receiving comments, but returning them isn't always a walk in the park unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm pretty good at returning comments, but actually commenting on other people's posts is where I've just fallen off the wagon. Weekends I have more time, but I lack motivation. I just want to read or hang out with the husband. Or work on blog posts. Or write. Fail.
DeleteOoh good luck on Nano! See with that going on, I'm sure a lot of other bloggers understand. See, I comment, but then don't get a reply and it makes me wonder if they didn't recieve my comment or didn't read it. But I'm horrible at it too.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's not going well... I've pretty much epically failed on it. There are some blogs I comment on that I don't get notifications if they reply so maybe try dropping by again to see if they've returned your comment!
DeleteI'm a busy person. So, reading and commenting on blogs every day is kind of exhausting..so I marked a specific day and I chose Saturday because that's the day I'm only free from school works. So far, I'm really doing well with it. :-D
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I just get so lazy on the weekends... The best I do is if work is slow and I can sneak in some blogging time there. Fail. But great job on finding a system that works for you! Hopefully I can find one soon!
