Synopsis
from Goodreads:
It’s been a year since
Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the
jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody – which is kind of all
right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to
play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who
really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most
challenging yet.
Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to “puree”. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of an ancient myth is gunning for her.
But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

My
Review:
So I read this right
after I did a binge-read of the Covenant
series because I needed more Seth. You would think I would be sick of this
world after 5 straight books plus a novella, but no. Not even close. Jennifer
L. Armentrout has built a fabulous world full of animated and well-fleshed out
characters that I want to live in. And The
Return just continued in that tradition.
I loved Seth in the Covenant series, even when he was being
a total douchebag. And now, after reading this, I love him even more. I think
that he’s bumped my #2 book boyfriend (Warner) down a spot. He doesn’t beat out
Chaol, but he’s quite close.
I loved reading from
Seth’s POV even if it broke my heart at times. He is so broken up over what
happened with Alex and Ares and Lucian. He is full of remorse and he was
actually pretty toned down in this book, although he did display some of his
famous and sexy snark. But what broke my heart the most was hearing him say
that he didn’t deserve love and affection.
Enter Josie. A sweet
girl who thinks she’s mortal, but may be more than meets the eye. She’s thrown
into this world of Greek gods, Titans, and Sentinels and expected to just deal
with it. And you know what? She does. She does so well. She’s a fighter that’s
for sure. She better be, because what’s coming is not going to be easy and it’s
not going to be fun. I really loved Josie and I think that she was really good
for Seth.
There were so many
steamy scenes in this book. I’m fanning myself just thinking about them.
Seriously. Holy shit. Seth is HOT. There is so much sexual tension in this
book. It will have you on the edge of your seat just screaming for them to get
it on already!
To be honest though,
not too much happens in this book. I think that was partially due to Jennifer
basically putting a bunch of reminder information into the book about the world
and what happened in the Covenant series
so people don’t necessarily have to read that series before starting this one
(although you really should if you want to do this book justice). I also think
that it was a tad slow because Josie was so far behind on everything. She knows
nothing about this world so we kind of had to start from scratch. But it was
still exciting and sexy and just generally awesome and I really really loved
it. One of my favorite things was seeing old characters like Deacon and Luke. Read
it and prepare to fall in love with one hot Apollyon.
Have you read this one yet? Did you fall even more in love with Seth like I did? Were you drooling over all the steamy scenes?

I haven't heard of this book until now and it sounds interesting! Especially since its from Seth's POV! I loved that guy, though I do prefer Aiden over him. I highly doubt I'll read this since its NA, but thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteIt's sooooo good! It's really good NA I thought. It was definitely a bit sexier than YA, but not overdone. If you loved Seth, I would highly recommend this one. I'm not usually a big NA fan, but this one was great!
DeleteOh awesome!!! I told myself I was not going to read any reviews on this one because I was ordering my book from Apollycon to get signed and basically waiting a realllllllllly loooooooooooooong time to get it, but then I saw the notice in my email that you had a review up and was like okay, I'll bite. Just 1 review. Just 1! And wow! SO cannot wait to read this one!!! Loved the Covenant series but it's been forever since I read them since I read them all as ARCs except for the final book. And there's been 100s of books since that one! So my mind will definitely appreciate said catch up and reminders!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it was excellent and sexy! ;) Great review!!
Ahh! Well thanks for choosing my review to read! <3 The reminders will definitely be good if it's been awhile. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Seth is super sexy in this one!!
DeleteI cannot wait for this book!!! Even though I didn't love Seth (Aiden for me), he was funny and snarky when he wasn't evil and he definitely turned it around so I'm looking forward to this new series. Great review!! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteYou will definitely fall in love with Seth in this book! Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
DeleteHe bumped down WARNER? Wow that's something to say. Maybe I should meet Seth, hahaha. Although I'm not a huge fan of the cover, I'd give it a shot. Great review!
ReplyDeleteI know, Marianne! Seth is amazing!! I definitely recommend starting with the Covenant series first and then doing this one. The cover isn't that great, but the book is awesome!! If you do read it, you'll have to let me know what you think!
DeleteI started reading the Covenant series awhile ago but stopped part way through because I got busy with something else. This new spin off series reminds me I should get back to that because JLA is awesome :D
ReplyDeleteThat cover though..lol. I'm not sure if it fits the book or not, but I never like model covers like that :/
Yes, you should bc it's amazing!!!! Yeah, the cover is cheesy but I think it's bc it's marketed as NA. Ignore it bc what's inside the cover is epic!
