Hi everybody! Spring feels like it's finally here! The trees are green, the grass isn't a gross, brown color anymore. I can sometimes walk outside without a jacket. It's such a relief to see spring after a long winter isn't it? My mood just instantly gets better, I am much more productive. Spring energizes me. To celebrate the good weather, I've been doing a couple things.
About two weeks ago, I went into DC with the hubs to see the cherry blossoms. Aren't they beautiful???
We walked around the city all day, went to a restaurant called Old Ebbitt Grill which is the oldest restaurant in DC. It was originally built in the 1800s and was a favorite spot of many presidents. It's also the third busiest restaurant in the entire country. How cool is that? I got strawberry french toast and OH. MY. GOD. That place has ruined all other french toast for me. It was absolutely heavenly. I highly recommend it if you're visiting DC.
Then this past weekend, I went for a five mile run with my friend Michelle. It was kind of cloudy and cool, but it was still so nice to be outside for so long just breathing the fresh air. I'm getting ready for a 10k I'm doing in like two weeks. Figured if I could do 5 miles, I can tack on one more on race day right?
The next day, Phil and I went over to Lowe's and got tons of herbs and veggies and pots and dirt to plant a baby container garden on our balcony. I've read that lots of veggies can grow in containers so we're going to see what works. We are trying cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, strawberries, basil and oregano. We have five pots total and have positioned them on the balcony in the maximum sunlight spot so cross your fingers for us! We still have our little indoor aerogarden too so as soon as our outside basil is big enough to harvest we're going to start some new seed pods in that. It's so rewarding to grow your own food isn't it? I don't know, I just love it. I even loved all the dirt under my nails and I am not an outdoorsy girl.
I've also been doing a little shopping (when am I not shopping?) and have been going crazy on maxi dresses and summer stuff. I got this beautiful blue and white patterned maxi dress that I throw a white blazer over for work. So stinking cute. And I bought a lot of these kimono type things:

I'm in love with them. They're so comfy, flowy and just summery.
So that's what I've been doing to welcome in spring! What have you guys been up to lately?

I love spring, so glad it's here!
ReplyDeleteOld Ebbitt Grill…I've been there! I'm actually visiting DC at the end of the month, should be fun. ~Pam
Really????? Damn I'll be all over the place at the end of the month or else I'd suggest we try and meet up for coffee or something. When are you going to be here?
DeleteI want to go shopping soon for summery things! :) we planted a bunch of stuff in our garden recently too, like zucchini and tomatoes and such so fingers crossed something grows... I'm not big at all on yardwork.... i'm just not. haha. but husband likes it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI want to go shopping for more summery things! Lol I'm a shopaholic. Yay! I hope all your stuff grows. Our container garden is slowly but surely getting bigger. I hate outside work. But the container garden is nice because I pretty much only have to water them. Lol
