Synopsis
from Goodreads:
The good girl, the bad
boy, the diva, the hustler, the rock star, and the nerd. Six teens legally
liberated from parental control for six different reasons, all with one thing
in common: something to hide.
Now they’re sharing a house in Venice Beach, acting like a family, and living their lies. No parents. No limits. No alibis. One witnessed a crime, another might be a murderer—and one’s been spying on them all.
As they cling to a fantasy of freedom and slowly let down their guards, the past creeps up on them. And when one of them gets arrested, everyone’s carefully constructed facade comes crumbling down.
In this steamy, drama-filled series, relationships are tested and secrets revealed as lies threaten to destroy their perfect setup.

My
Review:
The only reason I
finished this book was my desperation to satisfy my curiosity. There is a
mystery woven into these pages and I was itching to know how it was all going
to connect. But had it not been for this mystery I would have definitely DNFed
it.
The main reason being
the writing style. I hated it. It’s written in third person omniscient and it
read so impersonal. It felt like I was reading a book. Don't laugh. There's
validity to that statement. I like to get lost in books. It doesn't feel like
reading, it feels like being immersed in a whole other world. This book? It
felt like work. The language and dialogue sounded awkward and stilted. And
because of that I couldn't get behind any of the characters.
Every single character
was flat to me. They were people on a page and they never came to life. Candace
was a stuck-up bitch. Grace, I just honestly don't know anything about. Paolo
is a lovesick idiot. Lucy is a rock and roll star wannabe. John Michael didn't
feel genuine. And Maya was too quiet to learn anything about. Part of the
problem was the number of main characters. There were too many and with it
being written in third person omniscient we are distributed equally among their
perspectives. It was just too much.
I won't be continuing
on with the series. I found out enough that my curiosity is satisfied. I don't
think I can make it through another book with this writing style. It just 100%
did not work for me.
Have you read this one yet? What did you think?

Sorry this one didn't work for you…I'll definitely be passing. Thanks for the honest review! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteOf course!
DeleteAhhh that's too bad this didn't work for you at all! The synopsis had me really curious and I really like the cover actually. But. I'll pass on this one. Too bad!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was such a bummer. I just couldn't get past the strange writing style. :(
