Disney Princesses and Their YA Counterparts

I love Disney movies. More specifically I love the Disney Princesses. My favorite is Jasmine, followed in close second by either Mulan or Cinderella. There's just something about Disney movies that makes me happy. :) Maybe it's the songs. Maybe it's the pretty clothes all the princesses wear. Maybe it's the happily ever afters. Whatever it is, I love it. So I got to thinking...what if the YA characters that I love so much were Disney princesses? Which ones would they be? Here's what I came up with:

Mulan=Cinder: Cinder is a Tomboy as Mulan kind of proves that she is. Cinder is just an ordinary girl who is definitely going to do extraordinary things. She's trying to save the world from the horrible plague that's killing them all just like Mulan was saving China from the Huns. And of course Cinder's Asian heritage is just an added bonus.

Jasmine=Scarlet from The Lunar Chronicles: Scarlet is extremely independent just like Jasmine. She likes to make her own decisions. She is sultry and seductive (Has anybody else noticed how flirty and sultry Jasmine is?). Scarlet chooses a man who is extremely different from the normal (Wolf and Aladdin are both hot!).

Snow White=Luce from Fallen. I don't know why, but there's something about her that seems so young and innocent. Also I think that the cover art makes me think of Snow White. I struggled choosing a heroine for Snow White. If any of you have any suggestions, let me know!

Cinderella=Charlie from The Pledge: Charlie works as a lowly Merchant girl, but then discovers that she is a queen. I know Cinderella isn't actually a queen, but work with me here. She met her Prince and fell in love with him before she knew who she was and who he was. She's strong like Cinderella and she worked up from the bottom.

Aurora=Lena from Delirium: Lena was asleep until she found love. Then, with true love, she woke up and finally started living.

Belle=Tessa from Infernal Devices: Like Belle, Tessa loves to read. And she falls in love with Will. I know, Will is gorgeous. But....he has a very difficult personality and his own issues that Tessa must deal with and learn to accept just like Belle had to with Beast.

Ariel=Aria from Under the Never Sky: Aria must learn a whole new way of life like Ariel had to when she joins the humans. Plus Aria can sing and falls in love with a man from a new world. So Aria doesn't have sisters? No, but she does have a mother who is pretty high up in the chain of command just as Ariel's father is the King. It works, right?

Pocahontas=Pia from Origin: Pia loves nature and she lives in the jungle. She learns the ways of the villagers and prefers their company to that of the scientists. Kind of backwards from Pocahontas, but I felt like she had much of her kind nature and desire to protect nature and its inhabitants.

Rapunzel=Amy from Across the Universe: Amy is locked or frozen in a cryo-chamber for years and when she wakes up she has to rediscover her whole world just as Rapunzel had to when she finally left her tower. Amy must learn the secrets of the ship (like Rapunzel had to learn her mother's secrets). Amy is different from all the other girls just like Rapunzel. I think she fits well into the role.

What do you guys think of my pairings? Do they work? Who is your favorite Disney princess? Who would you choose as the Disney Princesses YA counterparts? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I just flailed and fangirled over this post! Haha. I love it! I love everything about Disney, so this was great to see! I haven't read Origin, The Pledge or Clockwork Princess (dying to read Clockwork Princess D:) but from what I've seen everything is awesome! I'd recommend Clara from Unearthly to be Snow White. She's kind and loyal and very beautiful (she's quarter angel after all!). Plus, she can speak to animals and sings very well, if that's not Snow White, then I don't know who is! xD

    1. :D I'm so glad you liked it! It was super fun to write! Clockwork Princess is so amazing!!!! Best book in the series for sure. Origin and The Pledge are really good! You should definitely add them onto your TBR list. I haven't read the Unearthly series but have been meaning to. Clara sounds like she would be an awesome Snow White. Thanks for the input! :)
