There's been a lot of change in my life since 2014 started. A lot of good change that I am extremely thankful for. I am going to continue to hope for more good things to happen because so far this year has been great!
We moved into our apartment (after a bit of a delay) earlier this month and now we are finally all unpacked and settled in. I really loved my old apartment so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find something that lived up to my expectations. Although the kitchen in this apartment is a bit small for me, I am making it work and I think it will be just fine. Everything else is amazing. Better than I could have expected. Our living room is plenty big enough to fit our large sectional. We have a nice gas fireplace and there are even built-in bookshelves! (This is literally what sold me on the apartment.) We have our own washer and dryer which was a must-have for me and we even have a small room off the laundry room that's just for storage!
The bathroom is good-sized with lots of storage space and a large linen closet. We have a nice big garden-style tub for when I want to have a good soak with a book. :) And did I mention my closet yet??? No? It's magnificent. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen. It's huge. As in, I could fit a queen-sized bed in it, huge. I need more clothes to fill it up! I'm feeling very blessed with how everything worked out with our place.
On to the next new thing! My new job! Yes, after about a year and a half of unemployment I got a new job! Yay! I just have to thank God for helping me find a job so quickly here after the move. Everything truly fell into place and I know that He is the one who provided for us.
I'm working for a civil engineering and land survey company just doing some administrative and quality control work. The company is really amazing so far and the people are all so nice. It really makes a huge difference whether or not you like the people you work with. I think I'm going to be really happy here and I'm looking forward to learning more and growing with the company.
But the thing I'm excited most for this year are all the bookish events! In Washington, I lived in the middle of nowhere and there weren't signings or any type of book scene really. But now that I live near DC, there are events all the time and I want to go to as many as possible. I'm headed to ALA tomorrow in Philly and in February I'm going to a Marissa Meyer signing (eep!) and the Dark Days Tour featuring Tahereh Mafi (*hyperventilates*), Veronica Rossi (*fangirls and flails*) Kiersten White, and Sophie Jordan! So many amazing authors to meet. I am beyond excited and am definitely also looking forward to attending BEA for the first time this year!!
I hope that everyone else's 2014 is going as well as mine! I wish you all the very best for the year and I hope to meet a bunch of you amazing people at all these bookish events!
How's your year going so far? I want to hear it all! The good and the bad!
Congrats on your new job and new apartment, it all sounds so great! And I absolutely love DC, it's one of my favorite cities so I'm a bit jealous. And all of the book events sound fantastic. ALA, that should be a lot of fun. And BEA...I really hope I go this year and if that actually happens, we should definitely meet up! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteWell since it's your favorite city you will have to come out and we can meet up then!! ALA was amazing. Seriously omg. I got so many books. We will meet up at BEA for sure. I'm definitely going at least on Saturday for Power Reader day!
DeleteWow, your new apartment sounds amazing!!! Fireplace and built in bookshelves!! I can see how you would be sold!! And your own washer and dryer :) We are moving this spring as well and one of my main things is that it HAS to have a washer and dryer in it. I'm so glad you are loving your job!
ReplyDeleteAND AUTHOR EVENTS :D I hope you post about them, complete with pictures :) It's lovely that your year is starting off wonderfully! I hope it continues that way <3
Yeah, I used to not have a washer dryer, but then my last apartment did and I can never go back. It's so nice to have your own and not have to leave your house to do laundry!
DeleteI will definitely be doing posts about all the events I'm going to! I will share all my crazy fangirl pictures! LOL.
Your new place sounds SO awesome! Moving can be stressful, and I remember the fiasco with your movers/plane cancellations! I'm glad you guys are all moved in! :) Also - that is awesome about your job!! I'm graduating from dental school this year so trying to look for jobs now. whew. it's rough.
ReplyDeleteUMM I am so jealous of ALL YOUR BOOKISH EVENTS OH MY GOD. Firstly, I've already been seeing ALA haul pics on twitter and it just has me all sorts of jealous. Also, BEA! You're going?! ME TOO! I just registered this past weekend! We need to meet up for sure!
Thanks you! Good luck in your job search and congrats on graduating dental school!! That's amazing!
DeleteALA was crazy awesome. I'm going to do a haul post sometime next week but I seriously got 40 books. It was amazing. I got to meet so many awesome bloggers and talk to so many different publishers.
We should definitely meet up at BEA!!! I'm only going on Saturday for Power Reader day but we will have to find each other for sure! Maybe a bunch of us can get lunch or something. :)
