It is Labor Day weekend
in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and boy and girl collide on a dark street at two
thirty in the morning: Lesh, who wears black, listens to metal, and plays MMOs;
Svetlana, who embroiders her skirts, listens to Björk and Berlioz, and dungeon
masters her own RPG. They should pick themselves up, continue on their way, and
never talk to each other again.
But they don't.
This is a story of two people who do not belong in each other's lives, who find each other at a time when they desperately need someone who doesn't belong in their lives. A story of those moments when we act like people we aren't in order to figure out who we are. A story of the roles we all play-at school, at home, with our friends, and without our friends-and the one person who might show us what lies underneath it all.

Review:
I never put books down.
It’s something that I’m really bad at. So the fact that I DNFed this book says
a lot. This book was not working for me at all. There were three different
POVs. The male lead. The female lead. And the male lead’s character in his RPG
(role-playing game). The character game POV was NOT working for me. I was so
bored during those parts that I found myself skimming.
Then we got to a part
where the girl starts playing her Dungeons and Dragons type game. Which was
explained in detail. This is when I quit. I think it just wasn’t for me. I
don’t get the allure of the World of Warcraft games or the Dungeons and Dragons
games. The reason I picked this book up was because it was marketed “for fans
of John Green and Rainbow Rowell”. Even the cover looks like a Rainbow Rowell
book. But it just didn’t work for me.
At 44% I was bored out
of my mind. I didn’t care about any of the characters. And all I wanted to do
was move on. So I did. And I’m proud of myself for that. If you enjoy gaming
stuff like this you may very well enjoy it. But it simply didn’t work for me.

Wow, this must have been really bad for you to not finish it. I thought it sounded cute, but I was waiting for reviews before I decided to read it. Guess I'll skip this one, it doesn't sound like I would like it either. ~Pam
ReplyDeleteI thought it sounded cute too. :( There was on POV that was literally from one of the characters in the game. That far in depth into the gaming just wasn't working for me. Hopefully it works for other people though!
