My
Review:
I just finished reading
this book and my mind is still reeling. I went in blind. As you should too.
Which means this review is going to be extremely vague and nonsensical. I don’t
even know how to write this. Everyone has been raving about this book. It’s definitely
been hyped up. I liked it. A lot. But that like didn’t quite cross over into
love. I think my biggest problem was how much my brain had to work to make any
kind of sense over this book. I really had to pay attention to every little
detail and even doing that, I still found myself confused at times, wondering
if the narrator was just exaggerating or if certain things really happened. I
suppose that was kind of the point though. It had a very Gossip Girl feel to
it. (I feel like I say that about a lot of books…) But another one of my
problems were how strange the characters were. Really not your typical teens in
my opinion. Some of the things they said just didn’t feel right at all.
My mind was completely
blown at the end. I did NOT see that coming at all. It was a fun book to read
and a quick one at that. I read it pretty much from start to finish unable to
put it down. And I definitely enjoyed it. I’m really somewhere between like and
love.
Should you read this?
Definitely. It was one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I kind
of want to read it again right now to see if I can straighten out some of my
confusion. But I know it wouldn’t be the same at all. Hope that was vague
enough and somehow also helpful for you guys. Probably not, huh? Happy reading
all!
Let's talk! Have you read this one? What did you think? Try not to put spoilers in the comments please out of respect for those that haven't read it yet! If you want to talk spoilery things, email me at lockhartbecca@gmail.com.

So excited to read this!

I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteI want to read this book really bad, but I do NOT want to review it! Everyone is having such a hard time saying 'read this' without being able to say why and I know it'll be the same for me. :P
ReplyDeleteStill, you have definitely added another degree of interest for me with this review! A mind blowing ending and one of the most interesting books you've read? Yes, please! :)
So just read it and don't review it! It was such a hard book to review because I didn't want to give anything away!! Enjoy!!
DeleteSo bossy. ;)
Deletehehe ;)
DeleteI am SO in love this book. I'm glad you enjoyed it even though it wasn't your favorite. I'm so happy that it's finally out in the world so that I have people to discuss it with. It was the worst finishing it and then having to keep my mouth shut because of spoilers!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's why I waited to read until closer to release day. I knew it would kill me to have no one to talk to it about!!
DeleteFor me, it was more about the family than THE BIG THING because I figured that out pretty quickly. I loved the effed up family, the unreliable narration, and the writing!
ReplyDeleteKate @ Ex Libris
I did enjoy the effed up family. Definitely made the book super interesting and just really sucked you in.
DeleteI want to read this book really bad because all the vague reviews just make me want to abandon everything and read this book NOW. However I'm also scared because I don't want to be disappointed, you know? I'll have to suck it up and read this book, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know the feeling. I think the hype may have gotten me a little bit on this one. It's so hard to keep your expectations at a reasonable level when everyone and their mom is raving about it!
DeleteMost of the reviews I've read for this book have been positive so I'm sure I'll end up reading it, but I may wait for awhile before I do. Part of me just wants to forget about it a little bit so the chances of me being surprised are higher. Does that make sense? I'm glad you enjoyed it! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteHype is the worst!!! But for me, it never really goes away and I never really forget about all the hype. Once it's done, it's done, you know? I think that you will enjoy this one. Can't wait to hear your thoughts once you do read it!
DeleteRight? I didn't figure it out either (I never try to--I figure that defeats the purpose.), but I felt like it was kind of being dragged out too long--I couldn't figure out WHY no one would tell her what HAPPENED even when she asked. And also: envelope full of beach roses? How???
ReplyDeleteBut I did enjoy it. I just didn't love it.
Yeah seriously. What was with the beach roses??? Weird.
DeleteHaha I know what you mean! There were so many little things that I really had to focus on (I was HUNTING for clues since I knew there was a twist) and some things were distracting. I wished there was a bit more actual character development? I felt like there was a general character FEEL but I didn't really get to KNOW them.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. There definitely could have been more character development. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I really wanted to fall head over heels in love with it which never happened. :(
