Love-a-Thon 2015 Intro Post

Welcome to the 2015 Book Blogger Love-a-Thon, hosted by the amazing Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books! For more information on the event, you can check out her blog. Basically we are going to take today and tomorrow to spread the love in the blogging/bookish community. There are going to be lots of mini challenges going up on the blog both today and tomorrow, twitter chats, commenting sprees and giveaways. I participated in this last year for the first time and had such a blast. I discovered so many awesome new blogs and got to know some super sweet new bloggers! This year is sure to be just as awesome if not more!

And now for my intro post, a little bit about me:

  1. What’s your name? – Rebecca

  2. Where in the world are you blogging from? – Northern Virginia (DC metro area)

  3. How did you get into blogging in the first place? – I was unemployed and searching for something besides job searching to fill my time. I started reading a lot and my friend Ana suggested I start a book blog. I didn’t even know the book blogging community existed, but I thought it would be fun and so The Library Canary was born.

  4. How did you come up with your blog name? – I’ve always had a passion for libraries. When we were little my mom used to take my sisters and I to the library and let us pick out as many books as we want. So I knew I wanted library in the name. I was trying to find something that was catchy. Canary seemed to flow well with library and I have blonde hair so I figured it made enough sense.

  5. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog? – I read a little bit of everything so I’m not really sure what I read “most” of. Fantasy is my favorite genre, but I don’t feel like I read enough of it. I used to hate contemporary, but now I love it and I think I read a lot of that. I also read a lot of science fiction/dystopian.

  6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews? – I participate in Top Ten Tuesday almost every week unless I don’t like the topic. I do a lot of discussion posts on my blog, participate in a feature called Book Bangin’ once a month where I talk about all my book boyfriends. And then of course there are random posts put in there like my Disney Princesses and Their YA Counterparts post.

  7. Best blogging experience so far? – BEA last year. It was my first year going and it was so much fun. I met so many bloggers that I talk to regularly online. I got to meet some of my favorite authors. Being surrounded by people who love the same thing as me was such an awesome environment to be in. I’m definitely hoping to be able to go again this year!

  8. Favorite thing about the blogging community? – The people. I love each and every one of you out there. I love all the different opinions, the different tastes in books. I love talking to all of you about awesome books and about other things. I love the friends I have made since I started this and I’m excited about all the new friends I’m sure to make in my blogging future.

  9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015! – Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (yeah, she gets two of these spots because she’s just that awesome), Winter by Marissa Meyer, The Rose Society by Marie Lu (I just finished The Young Elites and it was amazing!!), The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski and Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout (because I can’t just stick to 5).

  10. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read? – Defiance by C.J. Redwine – um this book has wingless dragons, a badass heroione and a swoony, nerdy boy. Read it!! Oh and A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller. Historical fiction set during the women's suffragette movement. Art, hot boy, strong heroine, amazing.

  11. Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF? – I’m going to have to go with Roar from Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. I just love him. Or Kenji from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. He would keep me laughing all the time.

  12. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests? – I’m supposed to have other hobbies? Just kidding! I love to shop. Fashion is definitely my secondary passion to books. And I also love to cook. Trying new recipes is so fun!

  13. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for? – See above. Clothes. I could go to the mall for 10 hours and not get enough shopping in.

  14. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing? – Ooh this one is tough. I’m going to have to say Blank Space by Taylor Swift. I’m so obsessed with that song right now.

  15. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.  – I would love to see the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown be turned into a movie. I think it would be so great on screen.
Link me up to your intro posts so I can come visit your blogs and share the love! Can't wait to see what you guys do the rest of this weekend!

  8. I'm now singing Blank Space in my head. This is definitely not a bad thing, because I love Taylor Swift! Ahem. I love that Sarah J. Maas and Marissa Meyer top your list of the books you're excited about for 2015, because it's the same for me (though I missed mentioning Winter in my post, boo). And The Winner's Crime and A Court of Thorns and Roses were both fantastic! Also, now I feel like I need to finish the Defiance series, because I started but haven't finished it yet :( Roar and Kenji would make great BFFs, by the way. Can I be your friend and theirs too? :)

    Thanks for joining the Love-a-Thon!
