Another new sporadic feature has been born on The Library Canary! Every so often, at least once a month, probably more, I go on a Goodreads binge where I just keep clicking on all the recommended books that sit in the sidebar and add a million things to my wishlist. And I get massively excited over them. So I've decided that I need to share them with you! Whenever I go on these binges I'm going to try to do a follow-up post about what I've added so you can go add them too! Keep in mind that a lot of the books I add don't even have covers yet because they have 2016 or even 2017 release dates. But the synopses sound amazing! I might also use this feature to talk about new TV shows, movies, music, etc. that I'm getting into or want to get into. But for today, we're just talking books!
Seven Black Diamonds by Melissa Marr
I haven't read Melissa's Wicked Lovely series yet, but I really want to. I love fae and think it's totally up my alley. This is a new series about a half fae, half human girl forced into a group called The Black Diamonds. The goal of this group is to infiltrate the families of the most influential humans and get revenge for the blood-thirsty Queen of Blood and Rage. Sign me up!
I am OBSESSED with the show Once Upon a Time and I had no idea that there was a novelization coming out. This actually came out September 22nd and I seriously have no clue how I missed this. I always loved Red's character and I am definitely interested in learning more about her. Need to get my hands on this!
First of all this book is set in Antarctica. I don't think I've ever read a book set there so I'm already down. I'm constantly looking for new and unique settings. About four people who can make or break the faltering infrastructure of their city, a glass dome that protects them from the cold.
A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess
A girl who can burst into flames thinks she'll be executed for her ability, but instead is invited to become one of the royal sorcerers. Proclaimed to be the Chosen One who will defeat an ancient race of demons, she's tossed into Victorian London society. But she doubts that she's the Chosen One. And she has to deal with three hot sorcerers training alongside her. Okay the synopsis doesn't say hot, but I'm just assuming...
Bound by Blood and Sand by Becky Allen
About a slave girl in a desert world where the magical well is running dry. When she discovers a source of magic she has to decide if she wants to give the water back. Because giving it back means saving her slavers.
The Reader by Traci Chee
Set in a world where reading is forbidden, a girl's father is brutally murdered. She goes to live with her aunt, but when her aunt is kidnapped she must use an object left behind by her father to find her. A book. Oh my gosh, the MC is going to discover the awesomeness of books and I can't even!
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
An arranged marriage which turns into love (I'm already sold), a kingdom that has a tree that produces memories instead of fruit and a girl who must fight her way through the Otherworld to save the people she loves.
The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye
A girl who can summon snow and turn ash into gold. A boy who can see through walls and conjure bridges. Dubbed Enchanters, they are wanted by the Ottoman Empire. But there can only be one Enchanter so The Crown's Game is born and the girl and boy must fight to become the Royal Enchanter. Competitions? Check. Magic? Check. What's sure to be a star-crossed lovers story? Check.
The Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves
In a world where magic is everything, a girl who has no magic, only the ability to break spells is cast out. But in Hungary, things are different and her ability becomes the one thing that can spur a rebellion and change the world of magic forever.
Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh
A boy who knows nothing but hunting at the foot of the Great Ice. But when two new parties show up at his camp, everything changes. Because the two parties know each other and there's a dark history between them that slowly begins to unravel.
Flashfall by Jenny Moyer
About a girl and a guy who are miners. That's what their people do, mine in the deadly tunnels beneath the Protected City. After bringing up a record breaking amount of cirium, they will finally be able to get out of the tunnels and live in the Protected City. But things aren't what they've been told and they must fight for their people and their survival. The synopsis totally reminds me of Red Rising which I loved so I'll definitely give this one a go.
Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
A new series from Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner! I have yet to finish their first series, but I LOVED These Broken Stars so I'm super stoked to see what their new series will bring. Pitched as Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider about a tomb-raiding race on a newly discovered planet. Yes, yes, YES!
Hunted by Meagan Spooner
Speaking of Meagan Spooner... another book coming from her which is a Beauty & the Beast/Firefird (a Russian folktale) retelling about Beauty with a battleaxe, a huntress hunting down the Beast. That's all the info out right now (it doesn't come out until winter 2017), but this sounds AMAZING.
Terra by A.C. Gaughen
After a genocide, elemental powers are reawakened. A girl discovers she has the power to control the earth on the same day she marries the man who hunted the Elementae to extinction.
Roar by Cora Carmack
I haven't read any of Cora Carmack's contemporary stuff, but this is her first fantasy and it sounds really good. Set in a world of violent storms and ruled by the people who control said storms. A girl who is heir to a kingdom shows no trace of magic and goes on a quest to steal enough magic to secure her future.
A Criminal Magic by Lee Kelly
Magic is made illegal by the 18th amendment, but of course a whole underground network of sorcerers still practice their magic. The main character is offered a job with the most notorious crime syndicate of Washington D.C. This is basically the prohibition of alcohol, but with magic instead and I'm dying to get my hands on it!
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
A young girl is brought into a prestigious school for assassins after her father's failed rebellion. She can speak to the shadows and is going to use that power with her training to get the revenge she so craves. After falling completely in love with Illuminae I decided that I needed to read more Jay Kristoff so I'm adding all his books to my wishlist. This one sounds like it's going to be awesome.
This is a story about deserts and jinnis! Yay! I love jinni stories and this sounds like it's going to be awesome. About a girl whose sharp-shooting skills are going to help her escape from her dead-end town. But she ends up escaping on a mystical horse with a wanted criminal and the Sultan's army on her heels. Things get even more complicated when she falls in love with said criminal and discovers secrets about who she really is.
Heir to both a throne and the powerful magic of wielding ice and fire, Elli has been training her whole life. When the queen dies, the magic will enter her. But when it doesn't she flees to the outlands where banished criminals are sent. There she learns more about the magic and her destiny and must choose a side: her kingdom or the banished.
Phew. I told you I went on a Goodreads binge. A lot of these are 2016 or even 2017 releases, but they all sound amazing. Fantasy is exploding guys and it makes me so happy!! More, more amazing fantasy please!
What have you recently added to your wishlist/TBR? Did you add any of these?
I just added like all of these to my GR TBR btw and can't wait for them!!
