So Your New Friend is a Book Blogger

Congratulations! You've made a new friend! Making new friends is always fun. Especially in your adult life. Because isn't it so hard to meet people in your adult life? And even cooler, your new friend is a book blogger! Of course when you first discovered this you had no idea what it meant. But you guess that means that your friend reviews books and such. And that's cool. Because reading is cool. And maybe he/she will have some good book recs for you. But being friends with a book blogger is unique. And there are some things you should know. 

1. They won't want to go out every weekend

You might think that going out to the bar every weekend or doing whatever it is that you do is super fun. And why wouldn't your newest friend want to be included? Because at their home are stacks and stacks of books calling their name and sometimes us book bloggers just want to sit home and read. And that's okay! There's nothing wrong with it and the most important thing to remember is that it's nothing personal. We really like you, but bookworms love their books and sometimes we need time to just decompress and read. 

2. Books will be one of the top five topics that come up

Sorry not sorry. We can't help ourselves. Books are such a huge part of our lives and we can't help but word vomit about them all the time. Especially if we read a book and love it. We won't stop talking about it for days.

3. You'll come to work hungover, we'll come to work book hungover

When we show up to work looking like death, you may think that we've been partying all night. Probably not the case. What's really going on here is a book hangover. We stayed up all night reading a book and got zero sleep and now we're paying for it. Not to mention the fact that the book probably destroyed our soul in some way. And no, I'm not exaggerating here. That really happens. 

4. We talk about characters like they're real

And to us, they are real. Don't try to tell us otherwise. It may end our friendship. 

5. If you'd like to get us a gift, books are the way to go

But check out our Goodreads shelves before choosing. We already own a lot of books. And we normally have all that information readily accessible via Goodreads. My personal method is to add books that I don't own and want to my "wishlist" shelf. Easy, right? 

6. In May there will be a lot of talk about something called BEA

BEA stands for Book Expo America, the biggest publishing event of the year. Book bloggers, authors, publishers, etc. flock to the event to network and talk about all the upcoming fall/winter books. Your friend will come home with stacks of new books. Think at least 30+ books. This is not unusual. Do not judge her/him for it. Try and get as excited about BEA as they are. It will mean a lot. 

7. Don't ask for books recs if you don't want a laundry list of books to read

One of the most exciting things for book bloggers to do is share books. If you say you're looking for something to read, we will pounce. It will begin with a series of questions about what you like to read, what you've read recently and then we'll give you a list of about 50 books you should get to. So if you're not prepared for that, then don't ask. 

8. Don't call your book blogging friend a nerd

It's not nice. We aren't nerdy. We are book lovers and there's nothing wrong with that. 

9. We both want you to read our blog and we don't

My book blog is my own little corner of the internet and I love it. It's a huge part of my life and I love every single aspect of it. I want you to love my blog. But I'm super nervous that you'll think it's stupid or you'll hate it. So just keep that in mind and know that my blog is really personal. Go easy on me, okay? 

10. Get ready to fall in love with books

We will book push you to no end until eventually you crack and become an avid reader just like us. It may take a few months, it may take a few years, but we will get you. Come to the dark side, we have books here.
