Synopsis from Goodreads:

Our last hope lies with our oldest enemies.

When we lost the war with the vampires, our world changed. The Old Family overlords trapped us in a few scattered cities and demanded our blood. Then Victor- the first vampire I've ever trusted, ever loved- came to power, and I hoped for peace between our kinds. Only now a new type of monster, Day Walkers, has emerged, and their maniacal leader is threatening to destroy us all, human and vampire alike.

The Old Family Council is stubborn and proud, unwilling to acknowledge the danger. But once I claim my birthright as the last living member of the Montgomery line, they will have to listen to me.

Neither fully human nor vampire, I am the bridge between both. Even if I'm not sure where I belong anymore, I know that the only way any of us will survive is if we stand together.

My Review:

After Daybreak was a well written, thrilling end to a great trilogy! Although it hasn't been my favorite series, I enjoyed it from the start and was completely satisfied with the finale.

Victor and Dawn are back together in this book after being separated for most of the second book, Blood-Kissed Sky. The two work so well together. What I really enjoy about their relationship is the mutual trust and respect they share. Victor trusts Dawn's decisions and actually listens to her suggestions. I love the way the two of them interact and I think it's a great example of how a healthy relationship should be.

Dawn is struggling with her new-found identity in this book. She worries that she won't fit in anywhere and will become an outcast, much like Sin was as a child. But as she struggles, she realizes that it is her destiny to bridge the gap between the vampire and human world. In coming to this realization, she also discovers that Victor cares for her more than she could ever comprehend. Dawn is such a great strategist. She was born to be the delegate between the human and vampire world. She is strong and confident and a wonderful female heroine.

The one complaint I have about this book was that it was fairly predictable. Nothing really surprised me, but I certainly wasn't bored by it. There was plenty of action and romance to keep me entertained. The author wrapped things up well and I didn't feel as if we were left in the dark about anything.

Overall this was a great ending to the Darkness Before Dawn trilogy. It was full of action accompanied by steamy romance. Hot vampires, forbidden love, impending war. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend this series to anyone that is a fan of vampires and wants a fun, quick read! Happy reading all!
