Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we make lists of bookish things!
Top Ten Favorite Beginnings/Endings In Books:
- Black City by Elizabeth Richards: The Ending: I don't want to give away any spoilers, but oh my gosh, the ending of this book was amazing! I cried. And then cheered. And then cried some more. I love Ash.
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer: The Ending: Plot twist! Not only is there a major plot twist at the end of this book that will leave you gaping, but Cinder is also thrown into prison. And then it. just. ends. What?!?!?!?!?! Naturally, I immediately picked up Scarlet, the second book in the series and devoured it and now I am impatiently waiting for the third one, Cress.
- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare: The Beginning: I love how Cassandra Clare wasted no time and jumped right into the story. Clary and Simon are out at a club dancing and then Bam! Clary sees some crazy people stab a kid. Sucked in. Not ever putting the book down.
- Soulbound by Heather Brewer: The Ending: Again, plot twist! The main character, Kaya, finds out something crazy and then once again... it. just. ends. Why? Why do authors do this? It makes me so mad, but I love it. Can't wait for the second one!
- The Program by Suzanne Young: The Beginning: I love how we see an already developed relationship between the main character Sloane and James. Their love story is so adorable. Not many YA books start with an already established romantic relationship so this was a refreshing change of pace.
- The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson: The Ending: At the end of this book Elisa has turned into a strong young woman who knows what she wants and where she is going. She is determined, strong, and fierce. The ending displayed these characteristics well. I loved how Rae Carson set it up for the third book, The Bitter Kingdom.
- Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: The Beginning: The main character in this book, Juliette, is an extremely emotionally complex character. The book starts out with Juliette in solitary confinement, alone with her thoughts. We can tell immediately how psychologically damaged she is and I loved that. As you read the book, it is easy to look back on who Juliette was at the beginning and see how far she has come.
- Delirium by Lauren Oliver: The Ending: I have a love/hate relationship with the ending of this book. I think what Oliver did helped the main character, Lena, grow and develop throughout the rest of the series. Since this book series is all about love and whether or not it is worth the pain, I thought the heartbreak was important, even though it sucked. Sorry that was so vague, but I didn't want to give away any spoilers!
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: The Beginning: I love how we immediately see Katniss's true character. When she volunteers as tribute in place of her sister, Prim, I cried. Literally. Cried. I don't think I've ever cried that early in a book before. That is some mad skill on the part of the author. Loved it.
- Fragments by Dan Wells: The Ending: Samm!!! Oh my gosh, I freaking love Samm and Kira. So adorable. And then Kira made that crazy decision! Right after she said... that's too spoilery. And then Samm... also too spoilery. Okay, all I can say is amazing ending! Dying for the third book!

Shatter Me was on my list too. I'm always hooked when a book starts with the MC in prison. Delirium's ending killed me. And Fragments, yes, I love Samm and Kira too and I can't believe we have to wait so long for the next book! Great list! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteYes, me too! It makes for such an interesting read. I can't believe we have to wait so long either!!! I'm going to die.
DeleteThe Crown of Embers and Shatter Me are some of the best books ever. Rae Carson and Tahereh Mafi really know how to begin strong and end with a bang.
