The Eyes of the Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi

The cover and title for the third book in the Shatter Me series was revealed yesterday! After clicking the link, seeing the cover, and reading the title I did a couple things. The first was an "I told you so" dance because I guessed the title months ago. The second was staring at the cover for an unreasonable amount of time because it is so beautiful.

After tearing my gaze away from the cover, I got out of bed and did some Blogilates. (This seems to be kind of a popular trend around the book blogging world right now. Are any of you doing it right now? It's literally killing me.) Then I sat back down at the computer and looked at the cover some more. And that's when I started to really examine it. Trying to find clues about book three. (Disclaimer: Most of this post is going to contain my own personal paranoia. I am so incredibly excited/nervous about this book. I apologize in advance.)

Am I the only person on the face of the Earth who didn't notice the reflection of the bird in each of these eyes? Probably. Obviously the reflection of the bird is supposed to be the bird that Juliette dreams about and happens to be tattooed on Adam.

The eye on the cover of Shatter Me has black, dead looking vines growing out from it. To me, this was symbolic of the psychological turmoil that Juliette was in. She had to work through a lot in this book to be able to trust anyone and she still wasn't 100% back to normal by the end.

Shatter Me

This is the text on the cover of Shatter Me. I think this shows what Juliette learned in the first book. That her touch is not only lethal, but also powerful. That means many people are going to want to use it for their own purposes.

They eye on the cover of Destroy Me is closed. I have been puzzling over this for a while now. Does it mean that she is closed off to Warner? Maybe it's supposed to be Warner's eye. (If so, he has some nice lashes...) I'm going to go with this: The eye is closed because of all the feels going on in this novella. You don't need to see anything reading this book because you will just feel it. (I love Warner!!!)

Destroy Me

*Squeals!* She will choose you, Warner. If she doesn't, you can have me.... What? Oh sorry, totally forgot I'm supposed to be writing a blog post. If you guys watched my Top Book Boyfriends video, you know that Warner is my #1 Book Boyfriend. I love him. I think about him all the time. I reread Chapter 62 of Unravel Me like once a week. I have a problem. So this quote is showing Warner's determination to win over Juliette. He loves her and wants to show her that. This shows his evolution as well. At first he wanted her however he could get her. But now he wants her to choose him. *Squeals again!*

The eye on the cover of Unravel Me is covered in frost. I think this is because of how withdrawn Juliette is in this book. She pretty much sulks almost the entire book, refusing to make any friends, until the very end when she decides it's time to do something (defrost, maybe?). (Can I just say her resolve becomes more concrete after Chapter 62???)

Unravel Me

Personally, I didn't really think this quote fit with the book. I mean, maybe towards the very end, but for the most part, in Unravel Me, Juliette sits around moping. Not finding people first. The resistance movement wants to find them first, but does Juliette? Like I said, not until the very end.

And finally we have the eye on the cover of Ignite Me. This eye has flowers growing out of it and looks like spring. I definitely think this symbolizes Juliette's growth and the way she is going to come out of her shell. I also think (hope) that it symbolizes them destroying Warner's father. And maybe, just maybe, if Tahereh Mafi loves me and doesn't want me to withdraw from life for at least a month, it symbolizes the beginning of her relationship with Warner. (Seriously if she ends up with Adam I'm going to cry in my room for a month and eat ice cream every day.)

Ignite Me

This quote is badass. I'm hoping it is a reflection of how badass Juliette is going to be in this book. According to Tahereh Mafi: "Juliette is back. She's pissed. And she's ready to kick some ass. No regrets." Yay! Finally! I am so excited for Juliette to finally accept who she is and the power that she wields. I can't wait to see her take down Warner's father! And please please please be with Warner. Although I am worried. "Ignite Me" is an echo of Warner's tattoo. So naturally everybody is going to think that with this title, she will end up with Warner. But here is another quote from Tahereh: "Don't let the title fool you! "Ignite" is so much more than it seems." What does it mean??? Is she going to be with Warner or not???? I'M FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Okay, I'm calm again. Anyway, that is my examination of all four covers. Mafi has also said there will be another novella released this winter before Ignite Me comes out to hold us over until February. Why are all the good books coming out in February? That is so far away. :( I'm going to die.

For the official cover/title reveal and to read all of Tahereh Mafi's thoughts go here.

What do you guys think of these covers? Any guesses on what will happen in Ignite Me? Leave me a comment below!

  1. How did I just find this post now?? I love your examinations of the covers!
About the novella covers and how the eye is closed, I think I heard somewhere that Tahereh said it was because Juliette wasn't narrating and didn't know what was going on so she was 'blind'? That's just what I think I remember though haha.
Love the predictions about Warner, I'm Team Warner all the way too! Hopefully they end up together :D
That quote from Tahereh is scary though about the title not being what it seems D: February 4th can't come soon enough!!!

    1. I'm so excited that you like the post! I felt like this one didn't get enough love.Lol. Yes, I did hear (after writing this) that Tahereh Mafi said the eyes are closed on the novellas because Juliette can't see those thoughts. If Juliette doesn't end up with Warner I don't even know. I'm going to freak out and probably chuck my book across the room. I've never been so passionately "Team X" before. I seriously love Warner. So happy to meet a fellow Warner fan! Have you seen the teasers she has been putting up on Twitter? I'm freaking out. I need Ignite Me right now!!!!

He's amazing! I'm sure my friends are tired of me talking about Ignite Me/Warner so much but oh well lol
Yes I have seen them!! Some of them I think 'oh, Juliette is definitely going to end up with Warner' but then others it seems like she's leaning toward Adam..sigh
I'm rereading Unravel Me now (chapter 62!!) Hoping that will hold me over until Tuesday :p
It's very nice to meet another Team Warner member! :)

PS this post definitely deserves more love..I'll be sending it to my friends so they can check it out!

    4. I told my friends I'm going to end up spoiling the book for them on accident about who Juliette chooses because I'll either come into school the next day sobbing or grinning like crazy xD

    5. Haha true statement. I will have to keep my emotions in check when talking to people. Which will basically be impossible. I guess I will just have to barricade myself in my house until all my friends have read it.

  2. HI :)
So, I know this is pretty late but I freakin' love your examination. The reason why i found this is because my brother asked me why there was an "eye" on the cover. You should know that my brother does this all the time. He asks me questions to prove that I don't know everything about a particular book or series.
Anyway, I love how you talked about Ignite Me. Reminds me of how I used to fangirl and panic and worry of what's gonna happen.
Well, I'm still fangirling and I'm rereading it for, like, the tenth time and 'm guessing you loved the outcome because of a certain someone being chosen.
    :)
