Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we make lists of bookish things!
I read this topic and got worried. I don't read a lot of standalones. I think it is because I read YA and unless you read contemporaries, which I typically don't, most YA books are series. So I decided to adapt this post a little to work with what I read.
This is the only Standalone I could think of that I wish had a sequel:
- Origin by Jessica Khoury: There is a companion book coming out, Vitro, on January 14, 2014, but it has all new characters. I loved Pia and Eio. I could've read about them forever. The book was so amazing with its science fiction aspects mingled with a seventeen year old girl wanting to make her own decisions and falling in love. Love them. Wish I could read more.
The rest are series:
- His Fair Assassin (Grave Mercy) by Robin LaFevers: I want another book about Ismae and Gavriel. I just love them so much. I want to read more! More steamy scenes in dark tunnels!!! More of Sybella and Beast! More of everything!
- The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: I just love this world and these characters. Please don't let it ever end!!! I'm excited for City of Heavenly Fire, but also dreading it because that means it's over.
- Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson: Hector and Elisa!! I don't want to stop reading about Elisa. Her character is so strong and has evolved so much just over the first two books. The last one, The Bitter Kingdom, comes out in less than a month and I am excited/sad. And Hector. Hector! I never want to stop reading about Hector and his love for Elisa and sense of duty. He is one of my Top Book Boyfriends!
- Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi: I only want this series to continue for one character. Warner. God, I love him.
- The Lunar Chronicles (Cinder) by Marissa Meyer: This is one of my all time favorite series and I do not want it to end. Lucky for me there are still two more books to come! One in 2014 and one in 2015. I will be sad when it is over though. I love Cinder, Prince Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, and Thorne. I am sure I will grow to love Cress and Winter and whatever other characters Meyer decides to add.
- The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare: Cassandra Clare has such a way of making me fall in love with her characters. Will Herondale. Love. And I love Tessa and was so sad when it ended. I wish I could read more about these characters and can only hope we get to see Tessa in The Dark Artifices, a new Shadowhunter series being released in 2015.
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Honestly I wanted this to go on forever. Especially after reading Mockingjay and being completely disappointed with the ending. I was like, no! rewind! do over! I love Katniss and Peeta and wanted to see their relationship develop more.
- Divergent by Veronica Roth: After the bomb she dropped at the end of Insurgent, I don't see how it's going to all wrap up in one last book. I love Tris and Four and wish I could live in their world forever.
- Chronicles of Nick by Sherrilyn Kenyon: I don't think many people have heard of these books, but they are so good! Similar to The Mortal Instruments, but unique in their own way, they are books you won't be able to put down. The last one comes out in 2014. I guess they do continue in a way. Sherrilyn Kenyon has over 20 books in her Dark-Hunter series which feature all the same characters. But they are adult books and you know how I am with adult books... Maybe I'll give them a try anyway!
Sorry I deviated from the topic a bit. Hope that's okay with all of you! If you have any really good YA standalones to suggest that aren't contemporaries please leave me a comment below! I would love to read more great standalones! Anybody ever get tired of reading book series? You are literally committing yourself to a book for a minimum of three years, sometimes longer. Sometimes I wish I could just read one book, be completely satisfied with its ending, and move on.
What do you guys think? Leave a comment below!
This was definitely a tough week because every book I read is part of a series too. I have started reading some contemporary YA recently and those are more likely to be stand-alones. You've listed some of my favorite series. And I think as long as Cassandra Clare is writing, we will be reading a book set in that world. Which is a good thing for me. Can't wait for The City of Heavenly Fire and then the new series! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm just not into the whole contemporary genre. Unless you have some good recommendations for me. I love fantasy and dystopians.
DeleteCassandra Clare will always be writing about Shadowhunters. I think she has three more Shadowhunter series coming out which is exciting. I will miss the characters from TMI though. I hope Magnus Bane is in all the new series at least. :)
I'm starting Divergent soon and I can't wait! Great to read you rate it so highly!
ReplyDeleteSo good! You will love it. Good job just starting it now. That way you won't have to wait so long for the last one. I've been dying for almost a year now. Lol.
DeleteI agree with all of these! I wish there were more! I'm plan on reading Chronicles of Nick soon as well as Cinder and Fire of Thorns. My two favorites have to be His Fair Assassin series and The Mortal Instruments series. I will be so sad when they both end.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for you to read all these books! I hope you like them! I will be devastated when TMI ends. And when His Fair Assassin ends. Why can't I live in books?
DeleteI wish The Hunger Games and the Lunar Chronicles could go on forever too ;-;
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I know. I wish I could live in those books...
DeleteI like the Chronicles of Nick. I started reading them because I was a Dark Hunter fan. I've read 18 or so of them but gave up because I sort of felt a little drained by them. But Nick is a great spinoff. He's a brilliant character in the DH series and seeing him as a teen - fantastic! More people need to read them! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I also love the Lunar Chronicles. Can't wait for Cress! Great list!
I'm so happy to meet a fellow Chronicles of Nick fan! I feel like no one in the YA world has read them. I've thought about trying the Dark Hunter series out, but the sheer number is very overwhelming to me and like you did, I feel like I will get burned out.
DeleteCress is my Waiting on Wednesday this week! :)
Great list! This was a tough one this week. I liked the series that you picked. I loved The Infernal Devices :-)
ReplyDeleteI know right! Will Herondale is so sexy!!! I was so sad when I finished Clockwork Princess just because it was over.
DeleteNice spin on the topic! :) Ahhh there are so many series I wish could go on forever, but you named so many good ones!! I have yet to read the Fire and Thorns series, so this has me excited!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You will love it! It is an amazing series!
DeleteTotally agree about the ending of Mockiingjay. And I'm reading Unravel Me right now! I'm excited, and nervous, to see where the story goes before the last book. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my post!
