Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we discuss what books we can't wait for! My pick for today is:
Cress by Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Expected Release Date: February 4, 2013
Add to Goodreads
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Rapunzel's tower is a satellite. She can't let down her hair - or her guard.
In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker – unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing stop her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only ones who can.

Why I'm Waiting:
I am so in love with this series it's ridiculous. It completely swept me off my feet just like Prince Charming would his princess. See what I did there? When I first picked up this series, I didn't expect to like it. I am not a huge fan of fairy tale retellings just because I think it's hard to do well. I should have had more faith in Ms. Meyer. Seriously, she is incredible. This series took me completely by surprise and I found myself falling in love. I love Cinder, Prince Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, and Thorne. There is not a character in these books that I do not love. Except Queen Levana. Obviously. But even her. I think she is a great villain.
The books are loosely based on fairy tales. Cinder, the first one, is based on Cinderella. Scarlet, the second one, is based on Little Red Riding Hood. Cress will be based on Rapunzel (in case you couldn't tell by that amazing cover). And the fourth one, Winter, will be based on Snow White. When I say loosely based, I mean very loosely. Meyer doesn't shove the fairy tale down your throat, but instead incorporates a few things here and there, but makes them her own. Cyborgs, androids, and an evil queen who lives on the moon. Crazy good.
The cover was revealed last week and along with an excerpt and interview with the author which you can read here. Go read it people. I died. I can't wait until February. I want it now!

Similar to you, I sort of started reading Cinder reluctantly, but immediately fell in love with it and didn't know why I hadn't read it sooner. Then I read Scarlet, loved that too, and now I cannot wait for Cress. February is too far away! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteWay too far away. I've read the excerpt I linked to in this post and the first chapter is also available to read here. I shouldn't have read either though because it is just making me want the book even more!

I bumped it to the front of my list when the cover got revealed. I couldn't wait. Lol. This series is so good! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteSounds like an interesting take. Nice pick!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great series. Marissa Meyer takes the basics of the fairytale, but really makes them uniquely her own. She doesn't shove the theme down your throat which is something I loved about it. Thanks for stopping by!
