Synopsis
from Goodreads:
Infinite possibilities….
Infinite passion…..
Infinite danger….
His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.
At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loves to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten–even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets down her guard, the ghosts of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.
On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?

This is why New Adult gets a bad rap. And this is
why I avoid it. *sigh* This is how this book went: Girl running from unknown
threat. Girl meets billionaire guy on the plane to her new location. Of course
she is instantly attracted to him. He is a controlling domineering freak-show
that disrespects her every other minute. But she feels such a “strong”
connection to him that she can’t leave. They bang. A lot. And of course the sex
is mind-blowing every single time. They have known each other for two days, but
are already madly in love and talking about their future children.
Oh, you want to know what she’s running from? I have
no f***ing clue. We never find out. The plot of this book was sex, sex, and
more sex. There was one scene in particular that made me so f***ing angry.
Liam, the billionaire, was being a total d*** and Amy still had sex with him.
Still wanted to be with him. I wanted to reach into this book and slap her
across her stupid idiotic face. She made women look completely helpless and it
completely enraged me.
As if the nonexistent plot wasn’t bad enough, all
the characters sucked too. Amy was bland, boring, timid, and pretty freaking
stupid. She knows she is in danger yet she trusts this random f***ing guy she
meets on a plane. Seems logical. Liam is just your cookie cutter billionaire
with a haunted past and a mean temper. He was basically Christian Grey with a
slightly less disturbing past. The ending is a cliffhanger but you know what? I
didn't even care because I am most certainly not continuing on with this
series. Do I have any good things to say? Hmmm.... It's over and I never have
to read it again? Yep that's about all I can come up with. This
"book" was a joke from the start and never got any better. Sorry for
all the rage and ranting. Moving on to bigger and better things! Happy reading
all!
Have you guys read this book? What did you think?
Yeah, NA...some I've really liked, but this one definitely does not sound like one I would enjoy. Strange that you never learn what she's running from. Sorry it was so bad! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteI know. It's the first in a series so I guess it will be revealed in the subsequent books, but I'm not sticking around to find out. I hate when books never reveal any information.
DeleteI agree. NA is a difficult genre to find a good read. On one hand it's like some authors are using NA just so they can add sex into what would have been a YA story. But on the other hand some books actually fit what I feel NA really is about - the whole becoming a new adult situation (i.e. post college or post leaving the parents). This doesn't sound like a very good read at all.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. I want more true NA. Like Fangirl! But I didn't even feel like this was sexed up YA. It felt like erotica to me and I was just like ewww. I wish there were more authors writing solid NA in the world. Because that time (college, post high school) is so important and I think it needs to be discussed in books. This was definitely not a good read. I've never written such an awful review before.
DeleteWell, there *is* a lot of good NA out there, but I agree that this might not be the best of it. Kind of glad I didn't review this one....

Yes! I know it's out there! Because I loved Fangirl! And I know there has to be more like that. It just sucks that you have to navigate through ones like this to find them.
DeleteSorry to hear you felt that way Rebecca. Thanks for taking the time to review.
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome. It just wasn't the type of book for me.
