Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we make lists of bookish things!

I was so excited for this week's topic. I discovered so many fantastic authors this year and truly rediscovered books. I will pretty much read anything by these next authors. If it has their name on it, I'm buying it.

Cassandra Clare: I read City of Bones this year and was completely blown away. I immediately got the other four books in the series and read them back to back. After finishing The Mortal Instruments, I immediately picked up The Infernal Devices and read those. I literally read every single one of her books back to back. I couldn't stop. She's that good.

Kendare Blake: I recently read Antigoddess and was blown away. So freaking good. I need every other book written by her right now.

Aimee Kaufman & Meagan Spooner: These Broken Stars completely lived up to the hype and I will be reading anything that either of these ladies puts out.

Sherry Thomas: I got really into fantasy this year and The Burning Sky did not disappoint. The characters, the world, the magic. I loved everything about it.

Sarah J. Maas: By far my favorite author I discovered this year. I can't say enough good things about Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight. Please just go read them. Seriously. There isn't a word good enough to describe how incredible these books are.

Rainbow Rowell: I did not expect to like Fangirl. It wasn't my usual read and I didn't have very high hopes going into it. It was perfect. Breathtaking. Heartfelt. Omg. I already bought Eleanor & Park  to read and will be buying Attachments soon.

Holly Black: One of the most unique vampire books I've ever read. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown was awesome. The characters were amazing. The story was great. I wish this was a series, but Holly Black has a good back-list that should keep me occupied for a while.

Rae Carson: The Girl of Fire and Thorns series was soooo good. I read the entire trilogy this year. So glad I didn't have to wait between books. Hector and Elisa. Love them. The world in this series is amazing. I can't wait for Rae's next series to come out.

Robin LaFevers: Grave Mercy was another one I wasn't sure about. The historical fiction aspect made me nervous, having not read very much historical fiction before. But wow, was this book awesome. Assassin nuns. How could I have ever doubted? Seriously. Epic. And the historical aspect was one of my favorite parts! Who would've thought?

Marissa Meyer: I was so skeptical of Cinder. I was all, "cyborgs aren't my things and neither are fairytale retellings." Wrong, Becca. You're wrong about everything. This is one of my all-time favorite series now. Marissa Meyer is an extremely talented writer. If you haven't read these books yet, better get going.

What amazing authors did you discover this year? Any that you would recommend to me?

  1. I just purchased These Broken Stars. I'll probably read it once finals are over. I also want to read something by Rainbow Rowell. I've heard so many good things. I'm thinking of starting with either Fangirl or Attachments. We shall see...

    Nice list!

    1. The life of a bookworm. There's a million books that I've been meaning to read too but haven't gotten around to. Like Shadow & Bone. And Graceling. And....I should stop. This could turn into my TBR and I'm sure you don't want to read that. Lol.

  3. I love all of these authors too. Cassandra Clare, Marissa Meyer...both on my list. And Sherry Thomas, I agree, The Burning Sky was so good, one of my favorite fantasies. And Holly Black...The Coldest Girl in Coldtown was such a unique vampire book, I completely agree. If I would have done ten instead of five, Sarah J. Maas would have been on my list for sure. Great list! ~Pam

    1. Thanks! They are all so amazing! I want to meet them all someday. And they will all think I'm crazy when I do because I'm going to turn into an obnoxious fangirl.

  4. Okay, I need to read EVERYTHING! I have half these books too -- just haven't had time to get to them yet!! The biggest one is Cassandra Clare's books -- everyyyyone has read those series but I haven't! I think it's because there's so many books and I binge read series... and I haven't had time! Maybe over Christmas break!! =)

  5. Definitely Sarah J Maas and I love Cassandra Clare. I really enjoyed how the Infernal Devices series ended though it was bittersweet for me.

    1. I agree. I was kind of upset that she got to be with both Will and Jem, but at the same time, I love them both so.... But I'm definitely Team Will. It was a beautiful ending and I pretty much just sobbed. Lol.
