Waiting on Wednesday: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we discuss what books we can't wait for! My pick for today is:

 Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Publisher: Del Rey (Random House)
Expected Publication Date: January 28, 2014

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Darrow is a miner and a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he digs all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of the planet livable for future generations. Darrow has never seen the sky.

Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better future for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow and Reds like him are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow joins a resistance group in order to infiltrate the ruling class and destroy society from within. He will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies... even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

My Review:

I love caste systems. If it has a caste system in it, I will pick it up. That's why I read The Selection and Pawn. This book seriously sounds so good. I hadn't even heard of it until NetGalley sent me an email. I immediately requested it, but got denied. Boo. Oh well, guess I'll just have to sit and wait like the rest of the world. And seriously, that cover? I love it. It's so sinister looking, but also powerful. I am so excited to read Darrow's story.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday? Have you heard of this book? Read it? Tell me what you thought!

  1. I only JUST saw the cover for Red Rising this morning. Like you, I love caste-system style dystopians. I'm always interested to see how author's divide up the roles in society, and what they deem the lowest of the low. Pawn was awesome for that and I expect this will be, too. Great pick!
