Organization Tips from an Organization Nerd

Recently at work we took the Myers Briggs Personality Test. At work they use it to determine how best to communicate with their employees. My results were ENFJ. (Extrovert, Intuition, Feeling, Judging). I want to talk to you about the J part of my results and give you some helpful organizations tips.
Being a J means that I like organization. I like to get things done well ahead of schedule. I like to make to-do lists. I like to keep calendars. I like to keep my work area and my home clean and clutter free. This is all true. I'm pretty neurotic about my organization tactics.
So you know how us bloggers always talk about how we have TBR lists a mile long? We aren't kidding. And I'm sure if you're reading this blog you also have a never-ending TBR list because you are clearly a bookworm and therefore, my new best friend. I digress. So how do I keep track of all these books that I own and want to read, all the books that I don't own that I want to read, the books that I have read, the books that need to be reviewed, all my ARCs, etc. It can get a bit overwhelming don't you think? Yep. It can. Which is why I've taken to developing organization tactics that work well for me.
First I want to talk about my Goodreads. I have a lot of different shelves (though not nearly as many as some people). All the books that I own and haven't read go on my "want to read" shelf. Books that I don't own and want to read go on my "wishlist" shelf. ARCs that I have and still need to read go on my "ARCs to read" shelf AND my "want to read" shelf. I also have a number of shelves to categorize my "read" books. Here's the view:

But aside from my Goodreads, I'm also an avid user of my Google calendar. I am not a mood reader which means that I usually read from a schedule. I do build free books into my schedule (at least one per week) and once I decide what I'm reading, I fill it in as I go. I also color code. Reviews are green. Memes/Features (like Top Ten Tuesday) are pink. Discussion posts are that bluish purple color, and other miscellaneous posts are that light purple/pink color. Here's a snapshot of what a typical month looks like for me.

I also schedule all my posts for the coming week on the weekend (usually). I even schedule my social media blasts using Hootsuite. This is what works best for me. Feel free to ask me anything else about organization tactics or share things that you do. I'm always looking for new, awesome ways to stay organized!

  1. I schedule my posts on a calender, too! Albeit, I use the one on my iPad, and it stretches into July. But I'm very meticulous about it - purple indicates scheduled posts and pink is unscheduled posts. It's so good to find someone who does something similar. Now I don't feel as crazy. Although my Goodreads shelves are a bit more haphazard than yours. ;)

  2. Because you love it, and because we are friends, I will 'let' you organize my books as well. You. Are. Welcome. ;)

In all seriousness, I just created a spreadsheet last month that organizes my review books by release date. I have actually been using it to stay a bit more organized, but I don't think I've ever been scheduled more than a week in advance. So cool, Rebecca! Love the color coded google calender!

    1. Hahahaha! You crack me up. How kind of you. ;)

Yeah, normally I'm only scheduled out a week ahead at a time, but if I know I'm going to be out of town for awhile, I try and get things scheduled out in advance. Thanks!

  3. Ok, I am impressed with your organizational skills. I now feel like a complete failure. :) I do absolutely nothing and it's starting to show with my being behind at reading and reviewing some ARCs. Oh well! I may have to do something soon…you've inspired me! ~Pam

    1. Haha, sorry. Yeah, if I didn't have some kind of order to my ARCs it would be a hot mess. Now I have to add all my BEA books in there!

  4. Hahaha you and me both! My Goodreads is INSANELY ORGANIZED (much like yours!) and I have my color coded Google calendar too!! :D
Also HOW do you only 150 books on your TBR!? *applauds*

    1. Yay for organization! Um... it's probably quite a bit higher since BEA. And I need to update it with all the Kindle books/galleys that I continue to buy/download. Zero self-control.
