Synopsis
from Goodreads:
Sometimes discovering
the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…
That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.
Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.
My
Review:
Oh my gosh. This book
was one of the most intense, emotionally draining books I have ever read. I
loved every second of it. I highlighted every other paragraph. I became friends
with the characters. I felt everything that the characters were feeling. Every
single moment of agony, pleasure, betrayal, hurt, joy. I felt it all. I was on
an emotional roller coaster, one that I would wait in line for 4 hours to go on
again.
The main character,
Sky, was so strong and confident. When she goes to school for the first time
and all of the other kids call her names, I felt so bad for her. But you know
what Sky does? She lets it roll off her back. She doesn’t care. It doesn’t faze
her. I just loved how sure of herself she was.
The plot line was
amazing. An intricate story full of twists and turns. I did figure out most of
what was going on, but you know what? I didn’t care at all. Because the story
was so well written. Full of visceral and real emotion. It was beautiful too. I’m
not kidding when I say I highlighted like every other paragraph. This book
teaches so many important lessons and just sends a strong message about living
through tragedy, fighting it, and taking your life into your own hands. Living
your life for you, regardless and in spite of, what has happened in your past.
Okay, let’s lighten up
a bit and talk about Dean F***ing Holder. Oh man, you were all right. Betty,
why didn’t I listen to you sooner??? Hot damn, this boy. Swoony as f***.
Colleen Hoover knows how to write romance and how to write it well. She also
knows how to write those steamy scenes we all love. I was literally fanning
myself after some of the scenes in this book. Dean is seriously perfect. He’s
strong, mysterious, and sexy. He kind of gives off a bad boy vibe at first, but
there is so much more to Holder than meets the eye. He’s insightful,
philosophical almost, and he always knows what to say. I loved everything about
him. New top book boyfriend, people.
That’s all I have to
say. Read this book. It will break you. It will make you cry. It will make you
laugh out loud. It will make your heart pound with anticipation. It will put
you through the ringer of emotions, but you will love every second of it and you
will come out feeling hopeful. I can’t believe I waited so long to read this.
If you haven’t read it yet, don’t wait any longer. You’ll regret it. Happy
reading all!
