I'm sure we've all felt this way before. Like there just literally aren't enough hours in the day. I'm always begging for more time. Honestly, I wish I didn't have to sleep. That would help me immensely. Here's a typical day in the life of Becca:
5am - alarm goes off, snooze
5:10am - husband tries to get up, I don't let him
5:18am - husband finally rolls out of bed and I grudgingly follow
5:25am - shower/get ready
6:10am - sit down at computer and start editing my manuscript
7:00am - check email, archive review of the day and cross-post to Goodreads
7:10am - gather the rest of my stuff for work and leave
7:25am - roll into Starbucks and get my coffee
7:45am - pull into the parking lot at work
8am-5pm (let's be honest, more like 5:30pm) - work
6pm - get home and change into workout clothes
6:15pm - go for a 3 mile run
6:45pm - stretch and shower
7pm - make/reheat dinner
7:45pm - clean-up dinner
8pm - sit down and read or blog, whichever I'm feeling up to
9:15pm - get ready for bed
9:30pm - make lunches for work the next day
9:45pm - fall into bed, exhausted
It's pretty nonstop every day for me and I'm sure it's the same for all of you. And sometimes I want to scream for the clock to slow down, for just one more hour in my day. But alas we can't do that. I think this is all coming up because of Daylight Savings time. I hate when we fall back. Do you know I went for a run on Monday and it was literally pitch dark. I'm lucky I didn't twist my ankle. There's a lit path right by my apartment, but there's 3 blocks I have to run in the dark to get to it. Super fun stuff. Don't worry, I carry pepper spray. But I already feel like there aren't enough hours in the day and then my daylight is taken away from me. Grr... I hate winter.
I have a point, I think. Maybe not, maybe I'm just complaining. But I've learned something since starting this crazy hectic routine. I've learned that if you want something bad enough, you'll go for it. There are three things that are really important to me: blogging/reading, writing and being healthy. I was having a lot of trouble keeping up with both my writing and being healthy for a while. My writing was falling to the wayside and I finally decided that was unacceptable. So I made a change. I started getting up an hour earlier. I sacrificed an hour of sleep to do something I love. I can't change the number of hours in the day. But I can change the way I live my life and my routine to accommodate the things that are important to me.
My point is, don't ever let time stand in the way of something you want to do. If it's important to you, then you'll make it happen. Saying that you don't have time to do something is an excuse. Do what you have to do. Rearrange your schedule. Get up earlier. Use your lunch at work to accomplish your goals. Nike's slogan really hits the nail on the head: Just Do It. What are you waiting for? Days are going to keep going past and one day down the road, you're going to look back and say why didn't I do that? I don't want to regret anything in my life. I don't want to say "what if?" when I grow older. I'm going to make the sacrifices now and enjoy the payoff in the future. And I know you can too! If you've been struggling with finding the time to do everything, comment below and let's encourage each other. Sometimes you just need a really good cheerleader.
What kind of sacrifices do you make to hit your goals?
