Review: The Power by Jennifer L. Armentrout

***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my opinion. The review below reflects my open and honest thoughts.***

Synopsis from Goodreads:

With any great change, there is always strife, and the Covenant University has become the frontline between pure-bloods who want the Breed Order reinstated and the half-bloods who want the right to control their own destinies.

Fate has other plans.

The violence is escalating and war between the races seems inevitable, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. Hyperion may be out of commission, but Josie and Seth know they have only earned a reprieve. Seth must get Josie fully prepared, which means controlling her newfound abilities, and they need to find the other demigods before the Titans do.
But the gods are sensing a greater threat.

Only one thing is more dangerous than a bunch of starved Titans, and that’s an out-of-control Apollyon. The aether in Josie is drawing Seth in deeper, and when lust mixes with love and gives way to power, he knows being close to her is not only dangerous to her, but to everyone around them, but letting her go requires a level of selflessness that just isn’t Seth’s style.

The paths taken in the past are becoming the roads of the future.

Just as chaos breaks out, familiar faces from the past return, complicating the already strained bond between Josie and Seth, and when the danger from the Titans erupts with devastating consequences, the dark allure of power calls to Seth again, but this time Josie might not be able to pull him back.

And when the struggle between power and love becomes the deadliest battleground, there may be no salvation.

My Thoughts:

Holy hotness. I think I need a cold shower. For those who don't know, this series takes place after the events of The Covenant series and follows Seth's story. I was obsessed with Seth during the Covenant series even though he did some not so nice things...what can I say? I'm a sucker for the bad boy. Then I read The Return (the first book in this new series) and fell even more in love with Seth (if that was even possible). The best part about this series? It's new adult so it is steamy as fuck. And I thought the first one was hot. But this one? Holy shit.

The Power is hot as shit.

We pick up pretty much right where The Return left off. I don't remember hardly anything that happened in that book. Damn it, book amnesia. But I caught on quickly enough. I'm still a little fuzzy on the details and before the next one comes out I will probably reread, but JLA gives us enough clues to let me know what the heck was going on. Josie is training on how to defend herself and use her powers. Seth is being Seth. And they're trying to figure out a way to recapture the Titans that have been released into the world.

The banter between Seth and Josie was perfection.

I love that these two are just constantly at each other's throats. Those kinds of love-hate romances totally work for me. I love how overprotective Seth is and how defiant Josie is. I loved seeing their relationship go from a fragile thing to something stronger. They still have a ways to go because Seth has a lot to learn about himself, but their journey is one I love reading about.

Characters from the Covenant Series!!!

I won't tell you who because obviously spoilers, but we get to see more of some old characters from the Covenant series and I LOVED that.

Deacon continues to be one of my favorites.

Aiden's younger brother is just hilarious. He continues to be the ray of sunshine in these books. I can always count on Deacon to lighten the mood or just be silly and awesome. And his relationship with Luke is too adorable for words.

New characters

There are some new characters, one of significance that I enjoyed. Although the one is pretty freaking annoying at times, but he definitely made me laugh. Reminded me of a more obnoxious Seth. Yeah. I didn't think it was possible either.

The plot line doesn't advance that much though.

This is my one complaint. I felt like not much happened during The Return and to be honest I felt the same about this one. We moved forward a bit, but not much and I could've used a little more. I mean there were tons of sexy scenes and scenes of training and whatnot, but the plot itself could have used a little push.

JLA continues to impress me with her swoon.

The thing that really makes this series for me is the swoon. My one complaint about the plot is minor because I'll read books entirely with sexy Seth scenes all day. I'm not complaining about it. The fact that some of my old characters come back and the continued growth of Seth and Josie's relationship made this book for me. If you're looking for a sexy read with one hot guy, you should definitely check this series out.

Have you read The Power yet? Were you fanning yourself over all those hot scenes? Did you feel like the plot didn't advance very much as well? Did you even care about that with all the steam and swoon going on?

    1. Haha I was always Team Seth. Although I liked Aiden and Alex together. But I'm so happy that Seth is getting a shot at happiness. He deserves it. And he's just so freaking hot! Lol

  2. Yesss! I loved how freaking sexy this one was! That scene outside? Yeah... LOL.

I legit teared up when Seth was being a butt to her! I felt like he had acted that way towards me!

I agree- not a whole lot has taken place in these books. I am ready for the story line to progress because I think the characters have been pretty well developed and fleshed out. But, yeah it was minor to me too because I am all for JLA's sexy times!

I adore Deacon and I love every scene he's in.

    1. Omg that scene outside had me blushing. Lol

I know!! It was so sad and just the reason he was acting like that. My heart!!

Yeah, I just really wanted a little bit more from the plot. But there was enough sexy times with Seth and Josie that I didn't really care that much. The characters are definitely what make this particular series for me.

Deacon!!!! He's the best! I love his relationship with Luke so much. <3
