Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish where we make lists of bookish things!
So the original topic for this week was Top Ten Covers I Would Love to Redesign. Well, I'm artistically challenged. Like seriously. Making graphics for my blog is probably the hardest thing for me. I'm just not good at it. So I decided to tweak this week's topic a bit. I have a love/hate relationship with cover redesign. Sometimes it's for the better, but...then my covers don't match. And I'm OCD like that. They have to match. I all the books in a series to be in hardcover with matching covers. Is that too much to ask? Apparently. So without further ado, here some of my favorite and least favorite cover redesigns!
Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I like the original cover on the left. The stars are gorgeous, but it's a YA scifi and I think that the new cover fits better with the genre and will be more attractive to a broader audience.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I love the cover redesign with the eye so much better! I am so in love with all the covers of this series. This is one series I'm super glad they changed!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I like the new cover on the right so much better! I thought the original cover with the model was kind of boring and didn't effectively translate how badass these books are. The redesigned cover definitely accomplishes that goal much better!
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. I'm not sure which cover came first, but I like the one on the left better, although honestly neither of these covers really does much for me. I think the covers of this series could be so much better.
Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick. I wasn't a fan of this series, never got past the first book. But I do like the new cover design on the right better. The one on the left is so creepy. The new design is also creepy, but it doesn't make me shudder.
Starters by Lissa Price. The one on the left is the original cover and I like it much better than the new one. There's something about the girl on the new cover (right) that I just don't like. And I'm not a huge fan of the color scheme.

How do you guys feel about cover redesigns? What are some of your favorite and least favorite redesigns? Let me know in the comments below!
Across the Universe: agree
ReplyDeleteShatter Me: agree
Throne of Glass: agree (she looks like such a badass on the new one)
Under the Never Sky: agree (the one on the right just looks weird)
Ashes: I actually like the one on the left because it's so creepy, it actually fits the story
Starters: This one is harder for me. I like the one on the left but someone pointed out one time that the girl looks like she's 10 years old and I was like, yeah, she does. So maybe that's why they changed it?
Great job of tweaking the topic! (We didn't really like the topic so we just didn't participate) ~Pam
Ashes: that's true. That book was super creepy. I didn't like it, but that was one where I felt it was me, not the book.
DeleteStarters: This is true. The girl does look super young. I think the colors on the new one just freak me out a little.
It definitely wasn't one of my favorite topics. I think next week should be interesting tho!
Both of the Starters covers kind of freak me out! But the original one more so.
ReplyDeleteYeahhhh I love the colors for Veronica Rossi's books but I'm not quite sure what the cover models are supposed to be doing.
I also much prefer the original cover for Across the Universe!!
Yeah, I kinda agree with you about both Starters covers, but for some reason, the new one is creepier to me. I think it's the colors. Idk. I just don't like it.
DeleteI like the original cover for ATU better too, but the new one isn't too bad and I definitely think it will appeal towards a broader audience (mainly boys). But the first one is so pretty with all the stars and the pretty colors!
I agree with you on all of them, actually. The new Across the Universe cover calls to me so much! It doesn't scream "ROMANCE" like the other one did. I saw this one in my bookstore and was so tempted to buy it even if I've already read it.
ReplyDeleteI actually had put off reading Shatter Me because I hated the cover. I'm glad I did, because now I have the beautiful redesigned one and it's perfect because it matches the rest!
The original Throne of Glass cover didn't really call to me, but the new one is much better at portraying what it's actually about! Seeing the girl with the swords is definitely intriguing!
The second Under the Never Sky cover made me laugh SO much. I had initially thought that it was a parody of a book cover. Perry looks like he's a werewolf and Aria looks like she's Bella Swan or something, lol. I like the original one better.
Great choices!

Yay! Glad we agree. Yeah, the new UTNS cover is so bad. I seriously want to know who approved that and thought it was a good idea. It's pretty awful and doesn't depict the story at all. At least with the original covers, the blue is supposed to represent the Aether (I think).
DeleteGreat choices :-) I think the Shatter Me series covers with the eye are much more effective. The Starters covers are both creepy. I think I prefer the first though.
ReplyDeleteI love the Shatter Me covers! Same here with the Starters covers. There's something almost doll-like about the new one and dolls freak me out.
DeleteGreat picks! Like that you changed it up as well! I actually agree with all your picks, I especially love the original Across the Universe. My TTT.
ReplyDeleteYeah me too. It's so pretty with the colors and all the stars. But I didn't think the second one was bad either.
DeleteI'm so with you on ATU redesign..I LOVED the original so much (still haven't read the series) I just thought it was so cool and attention grabbing and I LOVED how when you took off the cover there was cool stuff on there. SIGH. But I TOTALLY love the Shatter Me redesign SO MUCH..one of my favorites ever!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to see the inside of the ATU cover! There's cool stuff inside??? I got it from the library so I couldn't take the jacket off. Boo. Now I must go find a copy to see the pretty things!
DeleteShatter Me covers are my favorites. Like ever. They are so cool and so perfect for the series. LOVE them!
Love your choices. I totally agree about the original starters cover being better such a shame they have changed it! Visit my TTT at http://thoughtsofalibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/11/top-ten-tuesday-covers-i-wish-i-could.html
ReplyDeleteYay! Your the first one to 100% agree with me on that one. One person mentioned that in the first one the girl looks way too young, which I can see, but the second she looks like a creepy doll to me. *shudders* Thanks for stopping by!
