Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we discuss what books we can't wait for! My pick for today is:
The Here and Now by Ann Brashares
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Expected Publication Date: April 8, 2014
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.
Thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking, The Here and Now is a twenty-first-century take on an impossible romance. Ann Brashares’ first novel for teens since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.
Meet seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.
Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth. But everything changes when she falls for Ethan Jarves.

Why I'm Waiting:
Ann Brashares. I loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and haven't read any of Ann's other books. I don't know why. I guess I just kind of forgot about her (oops). I'm excited to read some new material from her. And also, this synopsis sounds awesome. Time travel! A deadly plague! A romance (which I can't help but think will be with a boy from the past who she can't be with....)! This sounds amazing! And the cover is super pretty. I love blues and greens and all the little triangles. It's actually kind of similar to the cover for The Secret Diamond Sisters.
What are you waiting for this Wednesday? Have you heard of this book? Are there any other Ann Brashares books I should read?
I love time travel books so I'll definitely be reading this one. All Our Yesterdays and Time Between Us were two of my favorites. Great pick! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when I chose this one because you love time travel. :) I haven't read Time Between Us yet, but it's on my Kindle. It was like $1.99 the other day so I grabbed it! I'm sure I'll get to it eventually...
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHow amazing does that sound? "It's actually kind of similar to the cover for The Secret Diamond Sisters." <- I've seen it a couple of times, but that's what I thought! Both pretty covers though. Great pick!

The books were so good! Better than the movies, although I only saw the first one. Did they even come out with the other ones? I don't remember. But anyway, she's a great author and I'm excited to read something new from her!
