Kick-Off for the Love-a-Thon

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Book Blogger Love-A-Thon hosted by Katelyn and Alexa! This is my very first year participating and I am very excited. In case you don't know, love-a-thon is a two day event where we spread the blogger love. We commit to visiting old blogs, discovering new ones, and sharing blogs that we love. Over the course of today and tomorrow I will be posting several mini challenges that Katelyn and Alexa created. They were super fun to put together and I hope you guys enjoy!

To kick-off the event I got to interview Nara from Looking for the Panacea! It's been really fun getting to know Nara and her blog is seriously awesome! You should all go check it out.

And now for the interview!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Well, I’m Nara and I’m 19 (almost 20, my birthday’s on the 16th Feb!) I live in Australia but unfortunately do not own a pet kangaroo. I do have a dog though haha. I’ve loved reading books for as long as I can remember and it’s very rare for me to go through a day without reading at least part of a book (and in fact, I usually read about a book a day). I’ve been blogging for just over a year now :)

I wish that you had a pet kangaroo. I didn't ask that in the question, but I was totally thinking it...That is so awesome that you live in Australia though!

2. How did you first start blogging?
Well one day at uni, my friend Chantelle suddenly asked me whether I wanted to start up a book blog with her. I’d actually been thinking the same thing for a few weeks at that point (#greatminds) and so was like, sure! And then, yeah, we started up the blog etc etc

That's kind of how it happened for me too. It was just a spur of the moment thing and now look how far we've come!

3. Top 5 books you recommend most!
aksd;fkasdf! Only five! ARGH THIS IS SO HARD. Okay, I’m going to maybe try recommend some titles that people might not have heard of rather than the really really well known ones, and let’s attempt to limit myself to one book per genre, so here goes:
High Fantasy- The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Science Fiction- Earth Girl by Janet Edwards
Contemporary Romance- Speechless by Hannah Harrington
Paranormal Fantasy- Pivot Point by Kasie West
Dystopian- Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (okay, this one is pretty well known, but aksdhfljasdf I recently read Ignite Me and FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS)
Also I’m going to cheat and add one more book: Historical/Steampunk- Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

Hehe sorry I only let you pick five...I haven't heard of three of these and I totally love high fantasy so I will definitely be checking out The Lies of Locke Lamora! And yes to the feels for Ignite Me. I think I died of feels. LOVE that series!!

4. Where is your favorite place to read?
Probably my bed lol. It’s comfortable! :3

Same here! Either my bed or on the couch.

5. Top book boyfriend!
I have surprisingly few book boyfriends, but it’s still freaking hard to choose just one. So let us cheat once more haha. I tend to prefer nice boys- the ones that are sweet/geeky/nerds/quiet etc. So most of my book boyfriends fit that- Sam from Speechless, Jase from My Life Next Door, Daniel from Something Strange and Deadly, Xander from The Distance Between Us. The only two exceptions to that rule are Adrian from Bloodlines who is kind of a bad boy and kind of not and Warner from Shatter Me. I should add that Warner actually didn’t become a book boyfriend until I read Ignite Me (because let’s be honest, he was kind of insane in book one and still a bit iffy in book two haha)

Okay, I haven't met Jase yet, but I've heard amazing things about him. I need to get on that. And Warner!!!!!! I am so in love with him. He is my #1 book boyfriend!

And a few random non-bookish questions!
6. Favorite food?
I have a major sweet tooth, so basically any type of dessert lol. I also love pho, which is a Vietnamese noodle soup, if you’ve never heard of it before. IT IS DELICIOUS.

I have never tried pho, but I've heard it's really good!

7. Hobbies besides reading?
Well, I like to watch anime and read manga. I watch some TV shows, but not too many- Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time. I’m more a fan of Korean dramas haha (I’m a Korean myself).  I’m also a bit of a gamer :P

I was never into anime until I met my husband. Still not really "into it" but I do watch Naruto which I absolutely love. Game of Thrones and Once Upon a Time are two of my favorite shows!!!

8. If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go and why?
Probably cliched, but Paris. Because PARIS. The food would be delicious :D (yeah, okay, I realise most people wouldn’t want to go to Paris because of the food, but come on! French food is SAH GOOD. If not Paris maybe Lyon because that’s supposed to be the gastronomic capital of France *drools*)
Or maybe New York during BEA. I’m sure you can guess the reason why haha

I want to go to Paris so freaking bad! French food is delicious! And I would love if you would come to BEA because then I could actually meet you!!

Thanks for having me on your blog! And I hope you don't mind me cheating on every second question lol

I think we all cheat on interview questions...especially those tough ones! Thanks so much for joining us today, Nara! It's been super fun getting to know you and I hope we get to meet some day!

  7. Nara, it is so awesome to meet you! I've always wanted to visit Australia and hold a koala (random, but true). Anyway, you have impeccable taste in books and book boys -- especially Daniel Sheridan, and the Something Strange and Deadly series, which I love! <3

    1. I want to hold a koala! That would be awesome. I heard they are actually pretty vicious animals though... :(

    2. I think the ones in the wild are pretty vicious creatures haha. We actually get koalas (literally) in our backyards where I live because I live in the hillsy/gum tree foresty area of my city and I have yet to approach a wild one lol. Dem claws are scary stuff.

  8. YESSSSSSS!!! Pivot Point :) I totally agree about the bed reading business Nara... I practically ONLY read in my bed, it's all about the comfort!!

Rebecca: You are going to LOVE Jase. I am not one to be won over by the whole nice bit (I like them bad hahaha) but seriously JASE. Yes please.

    Love this interview ladies <3

    1. I will have to check that one out. I know Nara really likes Anime, but I've only gotten into Naruto.

    2. I've seen three episodes of that anime! I kinda gave up because it was a bit slow. Maybe I just wasn't quite in the mood for it- I do that to a lot of anime lol e.g. Btoom, Durarara, Kuroshitsuji. Almost did it to Steins;Gate, but good thing I stuck with that one because it was incredible!

  10. Gah I would love to go to Paris too! I really want to try Parisian food :3 I've never tried pho too but I really want to! (I did not realise how food-infused this comment would be haha). Yay for anime! I watched quite a few back in the day :) It was great to get to know you a bit better Nara ^^

    1. Haha I am all about food. Parisian food is so good!! There was this awesome French restaurant in Chicago when I lived there that I've been to a couple of times. Delicious. I've even tried escargot (snail). It didn't taste bad, but the texture was way too rubbery for me. But I'm proud of myself that I tried it!
